Friday Morning Paddle

Friday morning we'll meet at Shelter Island and by 8:00 AM we'll be in the water and paddling into town towards the Maritime Museum. This should be a fun paddle as we paddle past Harbor Island, the Coast Guard base on our way to the Star of India. On the way back we'll stop by Mitch's Seafood in America's Cup Harbor for lunch or breakfast.

This paddle should be about 8 miles long and average 3 plus miles an hour.

San Diego Bay can be windy and have large wake at times. It is a working bay which means you get to see all kinds of cool stuff from Aircraft Carriers to Submarines, but it also means it can get a little bouncy.

Hey Guys! I'm still serious about doing a paddle to Catalina from the Coast. Just a thought...
Is anyone interested in taking the ferry to Catalina with the kayaks and doing a paddle on the island and taking the ferry back? I'm thinking 'scouting mission' :)

Wow Aradia, you are one gung ho paddler, please take that as a compliment :). I'd love to do the Catalina crossing, but seriously I don't feel I have enough paddling experience and sufficient rescue skills at this point if it got rough out there half way across. If it stayed smooth it would be no problem other than sitting in my kayak for 6 or 7 hours. I'd like to get out on the ocean more and get some longer ocean paddles in and then maybe by this summer do a Catalina Crossing. I don't think you can take your kayak on the passenger ferry to Catalina, I've heard there is a shipping boat that will take it but you would have to ride in the passenger ferry and meet your boat over there, unless things have changed in the last couple of years. I looked up the mileage and it is 22 miles from Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro to Two Harbors. Here is a couple of links to people that have done the crossing.

There's a slight possibility I might be running a bit late in the morning. I might be about 1/2 hour late, but please go ahead and launch without me if I don't make it on time. I paddle very fast as you know Jim and I will catch you guys before you reach downtown. I really think I'll be there on time, I'm just giving you a just in case, I'll probably be there waiting for all of you :)

I'm looking forward to this paddle :) See you tomorrow.

Hi Kim, sorry you weren't able to make it today. I got your party invite from Jim and thanks for the invitation, but I won't be able to make it. I have my granddaughter for the whole weekend and have plans with her so I can't make your party unfortunately. Thanks again. Greg

9 miles of pure fun and there's no such thing as winter in San Diego. Perfect paddling weather.

Omg. Sorry. I didn't realize I said I was attending this one. I should have joined you guys. I was fishing down by the Coronado Bridge. I didn't catch a thing. I may catch you guys in the morning. I went by Mitch's at 12:15. I thought I might see you guys there, but no luck.

Greg I was kind of thinking we bring snacks and stop and eat on the boats, just kind of huddle up and eat. But stopping now and then sounds more reasonable :)

Ya, will have to plan this trip one of these days. I'm figuring it would be a 5 or 6 hour trip with breaks and the mileage.

Yea we keep doing different pieces of the bay I think this will complete it, the last piece of the route from Point Loma to SOBA (south bay)
