For next month, we will be covering a the role of labor in progressive politics, and what the future of American labor unionism might look like. As the American economy has changed, so has the nature of unionism in America. As a result, labor union membership is at it's lowest rate since before the Great Depression. Can there be a sustained progressive movement without the support of Labor? What will the future of the labor movement look like? We will be addressing all these questions and more next month.
The book for next month is "Why Unions Matter" by Michael Yates.
I am only assigning one book this month, and David will shortly provide us with a list of articles to complement this book. As for the location, I am currently trying to scout out a new, destination friendly location for our monthly meetings, and will update with a new location when I find one. If you have any suggestions, feel free to forward them to me.
I look forward to seeing everybody next month.
