Table at the Central Library Celebration

The city of San Diego will be celebrating the opening of the new Central Library, and SDMMF has a seat at the festivities! We'll have a table at the street fair, telling people about the maker movement and about our upcoming Mini Maker Faire. If you're interested in helping at our table, please join our meetup and send me a message ([masked]) letting me know when you can help. We'll have shifts so people can work a bit and still enjoy the street fair.

If you've got something you'd like to share at the fair (3d printer, robot, etc) please leave a message in the comments. We'll also have an activity for the kids (TBD, possibly paper rockets) and flyers to hand out to interested people.

Such a gratifying event with so much activity and so many visitors! Thanks to everyone who helped. We need to be getting the word out about Maker Faire and that's exactly what we did at the Central Library Celebration and Sneak Peek. Couldn't make it? Well here's a small glimpse into the event: http://sandiegominimakerfaire.org/dome-hats-aplenty/

Ok, we had a meeting today. I street will be closed so we can't use the library parking or loading dock. Best parking is petco parkade, I'm told it'll be $5.00. Another option is the trolley and you can get off Market or Imperial. You can park near City college or balboa park and take the trolley. If you don't mind walking, there are some free street parking after 14 and j.

take the trolley and get off at the 11th/Imperial stop, should be only a couple block walk

Anyone have suggestions about parking in that area? It's sure to be difficult to park with the crowd; if there is a good lot some distance away, perhaps we can arrange to ferry people from it.

Maybe SDHS? There are ABM lots near Symphony Hall

Was down there today, I think your safe parking near Petco, unless the Padres have a memorial service for the season.

    Anyone getting there early?

We'll bring R2 with us for a few hours. Will we be able to park nearby or drop him off by the booth?

R2 would be perfect. People have told us from some angle, our new library looks like r2d2. We have a loading dock and parking lot underneath with elevator access, but I'm not sure if any spaces will be available. There are also so loading zones on j between 11th and park.

If you take the 10th Ave exit off the 5S or take 163 to the end, follow 10th all the way to Park. Turn left on Park and then the next left at 11th. Stay to the right. There is a driveway into the library, which is currently blocked, however the sidewalk at the corner isn't and that provides an unloading point to either the main entrance, the patio or the auditorium.

Hi John, and THANKS! So far it looks like we need people in the morning, but Mark is managing the schedule. I'm sure he will reply to you shortly.

Sorry I can't make it...I'm the vendor coordinator for the Oktoberfest in Balboa Park that day...so I can't get out of it. I can pass out flyers about the maker fair while I'm there though :)

    • Mark

Thanks Christina for offering to hand out flyers! We're ordering another batch, so I'll message you once they arrive.

Wish I can help but I'll be at the San Diego Entrepreneur day in the early afternoon of Sep 28.

The library has a free parking lot, but it's only 250 spots and I'm not sure if it'll be reserved for vendors or anything that day. A good free lot to shuttle people would be balboa park, which is about a mile away. The library is located on k and 11th. Some street near by will be closed for the festivities. There's plenty of free street parking after 13 or 14th.
