Midwest State Fair Theme Picnic

One of my favorite things growing up was always going to the Wisconsin State Fair for the food! Krispy Kreme Cheeseburgers and Creme Puffs are staples in Wisconsin, as I am sure other states have their own fair favorites.

So why not get create and have our own fair with our favorite fair foods and personal dishes? If you love to great food and want a taste of home, then come to the Midwest State Fair Picnic and bring your favorite dish(es)!!!

Sorry I had 9 people at the closest picnic table to the MBay Visitors Center at 2688 Mission Bay Dr. We didn't see you anywhere near there and didn't have your number with us. Maybe next time we can coordinate with a specific location or landmark.

Hi Steve. I'm sorry for the confusion. I hope you still managed to enjoy the day and we will definitely coordinate better next time.

I have a small grill out. At one of the cement tables and the blue top trash bin. If you come down Mission Bay Drive you will see two red cars parked next to each other. A nice Lexus and a beat up Monte Carlo. The Monte Carlo is mine.

Hello. I just got to the park. I have a spot that I hope isn't challenging to find. I am near the parking lot to the Tecolote Shores. If you come in from Clairemont go south. You can see the area from Mission Bay Drive. I'm wearing a red, blue, and White striped shirt. There is also parking along the street. I hope that is clear, if not please call me.

Good morning all! Terrence, I'm unfamiliar with the park set up. Is this going to be in a grassy area, maybe with picnic tables, or more of a beach/sand location? Also, do you have any idea about parking? How much and where? Thanks for your help! See you soon!

    April 19, 2014

    • Terrence S.

Hi. Mission Bay Park is quite huge and has different areas. The areas are first come first serve. I will be heading there soon to pick a spot. There is parking along Mission Bay Drive. Ideally I'd like to find an area near the parking lot for convenience. I will shoot for the area near the south end of Mission Bay Drive. There is a nice kids area there. Once I get there I'll send an update!

Yes, I have a handful of yes rsvps for this from my groups, I have a 5mile brisk walkers scheduled from MBay Visitors Center there at 12:30 today, with the option of staying after for that potluck. So expect a few more with dishes to share.

Hi Terrence! I'm excited about tomorrow! Do you have a contact # we can have in case we have trouble finding you?

Hi Midwesterners--I'm hoping to head over for a bit and meet everyone, with something to share (may not be a hometown fave this time)

I'll be on bike so I'll cook something that can travel well. Fried Wisconsin cheese curds!!

Chitown is in the house. I don't cook much. Wine?? Eh? Eh?

Hi Michael! It will be great to meet you! I am pretty sure that alcohol is prohibited at the park but maybe other people know something different. If so - please share. You might want to bring bottled water, "pop" (as we say in the Midwest), etc.

I see. Maybe I can cook something up. If there's a will there's a way.

    Hello everyone,

Since the park is first come first serve, I will be there well before to set up. So I will send a message the day of with a specific location. I will aim for a spot near the Mission Bay Park Visitor Information Center. Off Clairemont Drive and Mission Bay Drive. I would also encourage people to bring your own chair if you have one.

    April 16, 2014

    • Kay

Great suggestion on the chairs Terrence! Have you heard if anyone will be bringing drinks? A & W Root Beers maybe? That's totally Midwestern, right? :) If not, we all will need to remember to bring our own. I'll check back Friday to see if we can get a general idea of how many people are planning to attend. It looks like a +40 Meetup group will be joining us? The Mission Bay Park is SO beautiful! Excellent location choice. Thank you for organizing all of this Terrence. Your efforts are greatly appreciated! Please don't hesitate to let us know any other suggestions of what we can bring!

      April 16, 2014

  • Ellen

Ohio representing! I'm bringing "buckeyes." :)

Chili is popular during the cold winter, unfortunately also spring. I remember on cookouts we would always have pasta salad and potato salad. So my question here is: should I make chili, pasta salad, or potato salad? Lol

    April 15, 2014

  • Terrence S.

Hello everyone, Thanks Kay for getting this conversation started. I will be bringing brats and buns and creme puffs (classic Wisconsin state fair food). I will also have plates, napkins, utensils, and condiments.

I am also open to bringing additional food items if more will be needed.

    April 14, 2014

  • Kay

So what is everyone planning to bring?

    April 13, 2014

    • Marian

I think I am planning to bring kettle corn :)
