Tuesday Evening Pack Walk/Scooter/Run @ Rohr Park

Dogs are very social beings that have evolved within a closely-knit family structure: the pack. Life in the pack meant for our dogs' ancestors to spend a lot of time migrating and moving about in a group. This represented one of the main activities during the day. This is why our dogs still get so excited when we make ready to take them out.

Today's pet dogs, however, grow up in a man-made environment and things for them are not the way they used to be. One of the main differences for them compared to their ancestors is that they often grow up without much social contact with other dogs, once they are past early puppy age. Quite commonly this results in problem behaviour when they meet strange dogs on the walk; for example, excessive barking, lunging, and jumping up. This can be embarassing for the owners, but can become also be dangerous if one of the dogs involved shows any form of aggression.

As many of you know, while I do promote off leash activities, I also think dogs should be able to walk politely on leash as well, as that is the law in most areas. The walk itself is approximately three miles. It's a flat, dirt trail. Very easy course that will be loaded with distractions. A great location for this type of training.

***Feel free to come to run/walk or do scootering/bikejoring with with your dog. Just let us know what you are planning to do in your response.***

Meet near the bathrooms.

Here are directions:

From 805 South: Take I-805 south. Take the "E" Street/Bonita Road exit and turn LEFT. Turn LEFT on Willow Road. Turn RIGHT on Sweetwater Road.

From 125 South and/or 54 West: Take 125 S/54 W to the Briarwood Exit. Turn RIGHT at Briarwood. Turn Right at Sweetwater Road.

We meet in Parking Lot "D" (between Cresta Verde Ln & Orchard Hill Rd). This is the closest parking lot to Central Ave. Parking Lot "D" is posted, but it is hard to see from Sweetwater Rd, but you will see a HUGE cement sign that says "Rohr Park". It's the only parking lot with the huge, cement sign. When you turn into Parking Lot "D", go PAST the dirt parking lot. Go PAST where the horse corral. Go PAST the softball/soccer fields. Next you'll see a paved parking lot. This is the parking lot we'll be meeting at. We'll meet by the bathrooms.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
