“ Thank you all for your steadfast attendance and kind, honest reviews. I feel it's getting there - with your help. I hope that we haven't strayed too far from pure philosophy; it's more that speakers are approaching us now, and as long as they have a post-grad academic background and an interesting idea, my partners and I give them consideration. Hope to get the local philosophy profs back for "round two" soon... If any of you can suggest speakers/topics, please do so. We are always open to suggestions. ”

“ I have found the meetings of this group to be very interesting. The sessions promote open-mindedness, and a general exploration of important philosophical issues. It has been very important to me as well that the discussions and lectures have been addressed at a level accessible to a philosophical amateur such as myself, and not just specialists. There are many of life's problems that can be addressed meaningfully from viewpoints of philosophy. I have found the meetings to be interesting and worthwhile in this regard. ”

“ Not necessarily all philosophy, but in the ballpark, and always lots of fine people there. ”

“ Well intentioned but the audience generally lacks philosophical sophistication and don't know it. ”

“ I probably won't come to this regularly. Perhaps I'll come again if the topic interests me. ”

“ This is becoming an excellent non-partisan forum for the expression of philosophy. ”

“ Thanks Brent (et al). I'm glad you'll be sticking with it. So far, I have no control over the material, though I do ask for abstracts. (I'm trying to convince speakers that they don't have to spoonfeed us, but I'm unsure of what that would mean to an academic with a busy schedule. The series in Dallas is mostly technical papers, which I enjoyed immensely, though you can sometines get droning...) I guess when we get more "street cred" we can "up the bar" a bit. A mix of folksy and technical would probably maximize group utility. So far, though, I am just glad the academics have generously given us time from their extremely busy schedules, and engaged people like you have been in the audience. I'm sure a consistent turnout will make speakers bring their A-game... ”
