Photoshop: Working with RAW Images

  • Mar 14, 2012 · 7:00 PM
  • Photographic Arts Building - Balboa Park

We're privileged to be able to have this free Meetup at the historic Photographic Arts building in Balboa Park - This Meetup will last about 1.5 hours.

Meetup Subject: The Adobe Camera RAW Plug-in is a powerful program that gives you the ability to work with your camera's RAW files before importing them into Photoshop.   A Camera RAW file is different from a JPEG in many respects -- Bottom line, you'll capture much more information to work with in a RAW file than you will with a JPEG.  You should be shooting in RAW for your important work -- the results are worth it!

A useful handout will be provided. Please note that in the interest of time, the focus will be on "Working with RAW Images", rather than other functions, tools, and concepts of Photoshop.

In addition, let's have our members "pre-submit" RAW images by email or via my webpage upload (click here), and John will use a few of your images - Please submit by Monday, 03/12/12.

This free workshop is designed primarily for those fairly new to Photoshop, but it is also a good "refresher" course in the basics for those with a bit more experience...

John will provide bottled water, so if anyone else wants to bring goodies, chips and dip, cheap snacks, etc, please let me know - Let's have some fun!

RSVP early, as we need to strictly limit this to 45 people - See you there!

I'M PLEASED TO HAVE PURCHASED YOUR BOOK JOHN!
EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS I'M IN CS5, AND ALWAYS EAGER TO STREAMLINE MY WORKFLOW. SO WITH YOUR HELP, MY EFFICIENCY WILL IMPROVE. A BIG PLUS AS I SHOOT IN RAW + JPEG AND GENERALLY NOT SATISFIED WITH EITHER RIGHT OUT OF THE CAM. PLENTY OF PIXELS TO TWEAK WITH 5DMKII. INTERESTED IN CALIBRATING MY NEW MONITOR WITH POWAY COSTCO'S LAB.. (HEY, CHEAP N FAST, WHAT CAN I SAY?!). I HAVE YET TO READ YOUR TIP, BUT IT APPEARS TO DEAL SPECIFICALLY WITH THIS. GOOD TIMING! THANX FOR YOUR TIME, AND FOR SIGNING MY BOOK! IT WILL RECEIVE A PROPER STUDY, DANNY SAMSON

I just got home from work so I'm not going to make it tonight. I hate it when work gets in the way of photography!

Thanks John....yes, I would rather not carry my laptop, but I would if necessary. Looking forward to it!

Hi Osia, thx for checking - I'll be showing things in a ?seminar? format (via a digital projector), with lots of questions and appropriate notes (which I?ll provide) - Bottom line, it's not really necessary to bring your laptop ... See you soon! :-)

Sorry, I am new to this group, and I have a question that I have not seen addressed anywhere. Do we need to bring our laptops with CS5 installed? Thanks for the information.

I've attended John's seminars. They are a very good first step into Photoshop (and as John says - a good refresher) - Definitely recommended
