Eat, Drink and be Skeptical

Come join us for a brewsky and some interesting discussions! It's usually a great time for new people to come!

Why hang out with Skeptics? Because we do a lot of kick ass fun stuff and because it's self defense for the mind. The world is full of people all trying to sell you something, whether it's a time share, a health food, a medical treatment, a new drug, or a new law, a new religion. Critical thinking is the only way to vaccinate your brain against these masters of manipulation.

The SD Skeptics don't want to tell YOU what to think. Dogma is not for us. We want to help teach ourselves how to think. By learning about neuroscience, psychology, pseudoscience, logical fallacies and proper ways to evaluate evidence you can upgrade your brain's software for parsing reality and come up with more consistent and practical results. Results that save you time, effort, stress and cash. Our focus is on the practical. We bring up topics that effect our everyday life such as food, healthcare and law and examine them together so you can make real life decisions based on solid critical thinking and by combining resources with other critical thinkers.

So what is a Skeptic? Lets read it from leading skeptic Michael Shermer:

One who questions the validity of particular claims of knowledge by employing or calling for statements of fact to prove or disprove claims, as a tool for understanding causality.

In other words, skeptics are from Missouri — the “show me” state. When we hear a fantastic claim we say, “that’s nice, prove it.”

Strangely that is usually not a problem. The music did seem a bit loud at times last night. Our next event is a movie night at Stormhold - No loud bar music = much better for talking and discussion.

Was a good time! interesting conversations. Sometimes the music was a little too loud to hear each other. That was the only complaint.

We're doing a lot of activities this week, so we're going to have a quiet evening at home, for once.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
