The first meeting in a series of a few meetings to discuss the book:
A Guide to the Good Life: The Ancient Art of Stoic Joy
by by William B. Irvine

I have this book on my list to read and would like to look forward a meeting to discuss it with others interested in Stoicism.

This was a great discussion. There were diverse perspectives but in many ways they came together around some common themes. It was interesting to see the connections between different life philosophies and faiths from the Stoic viewpoint. The discussion proceeded quite well and in a relaxed conversational style, with each having a say. The themes were very much life-focused in a way that anyone could relate to without needing an extensive philosophical background. Everyone agreed that we should continue. Expect more meetings revolving around the same book, and other future books and topics to follow. I didn't mention it at this meeting but doing some hikes and walks would be something I would like. What does everyone else think?

We did a short hike tecolote canyon with picnic once I think people enjoyed. I like the idea. As is expected of philosophers we got lost though for a short time, while discussing an idea. :-)

Excellent meeting. Before it gets to hot, let's organize a hike :-)

I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to meet you. There will be more on this book. I hope you can make it.

Good discussion with a respectful group of people that had very interesting things to say and inspires deeper thoughts on the various aspects that came up.

There are four of you whom I haven't met, so it may be helpful to make it easy to identify me. I'll be the one who looks like a sage. No that won't work because I'm not a sage, and probably don't even look like one (whatever that would mean). I'll be wearing dark pants and a tan polo shirt and I'll have a black composition book, a black Kindle e-reader, and a black and yellow Philosophy for Dummies book. I don't plan on referring the Philosophy for Dummies book, but it is easy to spot.

I wish I could go to this meet up on Monday the 12th, but unfortunately I work on Monday evenings….maybe another time, if the fates allow.

Shayla, There is a lot to discuss about this book so I'm sure there will be a sequel. We can meet on different days to give others who can't come Monday the opportunity to attend.
