San Francisco is famous for its many intimate and distinct neighborhoods defined by the City’s hills and for the striking views of San Francisco Bay and the Bay Area. We will explore several charming hidden neighborhoods as we hike a largely north to south traverse of San Francisco. We will begin our hike at the Crissy Field Center near the northernmost point of San Francisco. From there we will walk eastward to the Palace of Fine Arts-- known for its classical architecture and lovely pond. Our route will then head southward through the Cow Hollow and Pacific Heights neighborhoods. We will stop at Alta Plaza Park to admire the lovely views of the area. Our southward hike will then continue to Alamo Square known for its views of downtown San Francisco and lovely Victorian houses. Next our route will take us through the Upper Market area to spacious Mission Dolores Park-- the site of San Francisco’s original mission. We will then head westward to go to Tank Hill and Mount Sutro, which is topped by the giant Sutro Tower visible from throughout the area. After admiring the view from Mount Sutro, we will head back down to the Forest Hill Muni Station where we will descend by elevator into an engineering wonder and catch the Muni Metro northwards. After transferring to the Fillmore Street busline, we will arrive at the north shore of San Francisco. Our loop will be closed by walking westward along the shore of the bay through the Marina Green back to Crissy Field Center.

DIRECTIONS to Crissy Field from Palo Alto : - Take the I-280 NORTH ramp towards SAN FRANCISCO
- Take 19th AVENUE EXIT from I-280 in SF (only possibility is northward)
- Stay on 19th AVENUE going north
- When you reach Golden Gate Park, 19th AVENUE transitions to PARK-
PRESIDIO AVENUE (to make sure you make this transition correctly, get in
the rightmost lane after you arrive at Golden Gate Park)
- Continue northward on PARK-PRESIDIO
- After passing through a tunnel, watch out for the DOWNTOWN/
MARINA BLVD. EXIT, which you should take (first exit after tunnel)
- You will then be on Doyle Drive. Go to the leftmost lane and take the
MARINA BLVD. EXIT, which will put you on MARINA BLVD heading
EAST.
- Your next goal is to arrange to travel WEST on MARINA BLVD. (Try either
making a right turn onto a sidestreet and then looping back to Marina Blvd or
make a left turn into one of the parking lots on Marina Green and then loop
back to Marina Blvd)
- When you are HEADING WEST on MARINA BLVD, you will encounter a
stoplight where you can veer right to get off Marina Blvd and
head into the Presidio/ Crissy Field.
- You are now on MASON STREET and the CRISSY FIELD CENTER will be
to your left (at the corner with HALLECK STREET). Trip "leader":

Julio organized a great adventure around San Francisco. Fun people, beautiful day, and I learned some new spots about the city, too. Thanks!

Great route, great guide, great City, great hikers, great day/weather. We saw Nancy Pelosi and Gavin Newsom at Crissy Field but they were too busy with their work to hike along with us, oh well, their loss.
