Our Second Meetup

Hi, everyone! Let's roll our enthusiasm into our second meeting, this time in the East Bay.  Our fellow member Ryan has generously offered to host us at his company, BrandAds, in Emeryville.   We'll probably have more pizza, likely from Hot Italian.  Not sure about wine and beer this time around.  Maybe BYOB?

For those who are doing Kickstarter projects, I'd highly suggest reading this article — http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/2012/12/18/hacking-kickstarter-how-to-raise-100000-in-10-days-includes-successful-templates-e-mails-etc/ It was briefly mentioned last night (by Craig if I recall correctly?), but I wanted to post the link here in case anyone didn't catch it. It's one of the best resources I've come across on how to successfully execute an online fundraising campaign.

Hi Paul: Thanks a lot for the link. I was just about to send you an email to ask you about this. I thought you mentioned it me. Anyway, thank you for looking it up for everybody.

If anyone needs a ride from SF (mission/Soma area), I have room for 2 more in my car. I leave at 5pm from Harrison & 15th. Let me know.

    August 19, 2013

    • Johanna W.

Yes I have room for 1 more, I'm picking 2 others up at Civic center Bart station at 5:15pm. Does that work?

      August 19, 2013

  • Ryan M. P.

If you're interested we'd be happy to host the next (or future) meetup at the BrandAds office in Emeryville. It's right over the Bay Bridge and easily accessible via BART.

    July 25, 2013

    • Ryan M. P.

There's a free shuttle called the Emery Go Round that will take you right to the Public Market, which is where our office is.

      1 · August 18, 2013

    • Stephen C.

I go to West Oakland station and take the 26, which terminates at the Public Market in Emeryville: http://www.actransit.... (That's more than likely what Google will recommend.) If you start close to the temporary transbay terminal, you can take the F bus which stops by the Trader Joe's. From there it's about a 15 minute walk, or you can hop on the Emery Go Round that Ryan Mentioned.

Hi everyone. I am not a high tech guy but would like to know if any of you are interested in helping out with an idea for a worthy cause. I am looking for web design experts to help design a website calling for a boycott of beef to save wolves, bison, wild horses, bears and other wildlife that is being kill annually by the federal government on behalf of ranchers. The website will aim to inform and educate the general public about these issues and encourage them to boycott beef until the government restores protections for all of these animals. Any suggestions or ideas are welcome. If any one is interested please reply.

    Many thanks for the animals;

Hi, Alfredo. Welcome. There will be a period dedicated to project proposals and announcements at the meetup. Also, we are working on some online tools to more formally propose, discuss, and track projects.

WTF Hot Italian has vegan pizza? Yet another East Bay diamond in the rough. Johanna and I live in Emeryville, so that's an obvious preference for us. But people are getting pretty excited about Source and Happycow offered to grease some palms over there. I don't know that's a euphemism for but I hope it's vegan. At any rate, I feel a poll coming on.

Oakland is the hotspot for veganism! Just learned today by two vegans that there is a brand new conference on Oct 5 in Oakland called Plant-Powered Health and Fitness Expo.

Being an Oakie from Oakland, I'd prefer an east bay location. So I vote for Ryan's office. I have no experience with Source.

I know this is an odd place to ask this, but I don't know of a vegan/veggie bulletin board... I am looking for a veg roommate to share my house in Oakland. If you know of anyone, give me a holler.

Hullo fellow vegans.. are you guys aware of the poaching crisis in Africa? Elephants are being decimated for their ivory and rhinos for their horns. The ivory is made into trinkets in China. A march is being organized on Oct4th through China Town, which still sells ivory (legally) under US law. The intention of the march is to (peacefully) raise awareness about the rapid demise of one of Earth's grandest species.. I was wondering if any of you would like to help spread the word about the march on Oct4th?

Looking forward to meeting all of you on the 19th. Thanks for organizing. http://www.meetup.com/March-for-Elephants/

Are you an engineer wanting to help some of the Bay Area vegan-related organizations? If so, send me an email: jicksta%gmail%com. We're working on a list of who needs what and what skills techies are willing to share. Would be great to have this fleshed out more before the next meetup!

Berkeley would be easier then S.F. for me given I'm up in sonoma county. San Francisco is difficult to get around in.

Berkeley would be swell for me!

I'd love to attend a meetup with you guys, but I'm out in Sunnyvale currently coding from 8am-8pm, so sneaking away for a bit to a place a little further away will be difficult for me. I graduate 8/23, so if the chosen location is too far for me this time, I'll totally try to make it to the next one!!
