The San Francisco Bay Blades is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) organization dedicated to promoting both the sport of rowing in the LGBT community and the visibility of LGBT athletes in the rowing community.
Our focus is competition. We're seeking athletic people who like to train hard and compete, want to attend several practices a week, and want to have fun doing it! Previous rowing experience is great, but it's not necessary so long as you're eager to learn.
And... we have a good time together! Practices always have their moments of levity. Every Sunday we have brunch together after practice. We also organize social events for the Blades "Family": team members, partners, friends, prospects and so on.
You may be wondering, "What qualifies as 'athletic'?, what exactly does 'train hard' mean?, how eager do I have to be?, who ARE these people?, and maybe one or the other of the big ones: Am I good enough for this group? / Is this group good enough for me?"
Those are great questions. Best way to answer them is visit a practice, meet some of our members, watch from the coaching boat, and see for yourself if it feels like a good fit. To find out more ask any of the organizers. To visit a practice contact our coach Al Chase.
