Del Valle 10 mile hike followed by wine-tasting

Leaders: Dave Ellison, [masked], (510) 684-6506.
Marian Stainbrook, [masked], (510)[masked]

This is a dog-friendly hike, and an event co-sponsored by the San Francisco and Loma Prieta chapters.

"Deep in a valley framed by oak-covered hills, with sailboats and sailboards skimming over its waters, Del Valle is like a lakeside resort only 10 miles south of Livermore." Add to this some turkey vultures, red-tailed hawks, and warm conversation and you've got the makings of a great day. We'll take a leisurely out-and-back from the Arroyo St. entrance, stroll along Del Valle Reservoir following the East Shore Trail, and enjoy lunch at Badger Cove. The route has little elevation gain, so it should be pretty easy. After the hike, we'll stop at Wente Winery for self-congratulatory libations, and some of us may even stay for dinner (so this event could extend beyond 6 pm for some). Rain cancels everything but the smile.

Meet at the Arroyo Road Staging Area at 10 a.m. Parking is $3.00, must have exact amount for machine. Bring lunch and layers

Directions: From 580 Livermore take the Portola Ave. exit. Drive southeast on Portola Ave. and turn right on North L Street. After crossing First Street, North L Street becomes South L Street and then Arroyo Road. Continue on Arroyo Road…you’ll pass Sycamore Grove, Wente Winery and then Livermore Veterans Admin. Hospital …go all the way to the end…staging area is on the left.

There is a 40% chance of rain tomorrow. Note if you see that it is rainy in the morning, then hike is canceled. If you are unsure then call me at[masked] in the a.m.

Sorry to change my RSVP, but I'm exhausted. Too much school/work and not enough rest. Enjoy the huge, if not cancelled.

Nancy...Thanks for your comments. They do have boat rentals, however, we are not going to be hiking anywhere near that part of the lake. Generally on longer hikes I try to make them early enough so we get back before it's dark....Marian o)

Hi Marian, anyway, you can consider starting these hikes a bit later...for those of us coming from an hour away. Thanks, Nancy
