Bead Crochet

LOCATION: Alexis's house near Geary and 22nd Ave in San Francisco. Exact address will be emailed to RSVPed attendees the day before the meetup.

I've been doing a lot of bead crochet ropes lately because it's an easy and *very* portable project to do when you have a bit of free time.  I'm not an expert by any means, but I figured I could show people how to do it if they're interested.

The youtube video included here and this tutorial really helped me figure it out, so take a look.  You can use whatever size/shape beads you want, but for learning I would recommend size 6 or 8 beads, size 10 thread, and a size 7 (1.65 mm) crochet hook.

The very first step of crocheting a rope of beads is to string ALL OF THE BEADS.  So if you want to get a head start, you could string all your beads before you arrive.  Otherwise, you could just string a bit when you arrive and then use that to make a sample.  Here is a chart that tells you how much to string (pdf) for a 6-around rope for a few different sizes of beads (but start with big beads, I promise you'll be MUCH happier.)

I recommend starting with a spiral of colors like you'll see in the video.  I really, really, really recommend it.  :-)

Sorry to miss you AGAIN! Off to San Diego in the morning....I am VERY interested in bead crochet though and hope to get back into it when I see you next. Hope you'll give me a private tutorial, Alexis...?

Sorry everyone, Merlin and his two valets cannot make it after all. The mother-in-law's birthday is this weekend, and she has decided what she wants to do - and it is a conflict for this event. :( We'll see you next time. Have a good time, everyone!
