Eureka Valley's Amazing Footpaths (Reprise)

  • Apr 28, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

About the Walk--

Eureka Valley's Amazing Footpaths "sold out" twice in March, so Gilles has graciously agreed to guide another group of City Steppers along this marvelous itinerary from Adah Bakalinsky's book, Staircase Walks in San Francisco. The route follows various footpaths, alleys, stairways, skyways, and charming tree-lined streets with historic architecture and terrific views. And there is a really cool slide too!

The walk takes about 1.5 hours at an average pace. There are a few challenging climbs that might require a short rest at the top.

Where & When--

Meet your host/guide, Gilles, in front of Philz Coffee on 24th Street and Douglass at 11:00 am. (Careful! There are several Philz Coffee Houses throughout the city. You want the one located at[masked]th Street.)

The group sets out at 11:15 am sharp so leave plenty of time for transit delays, parking difficulties and to wait on line at Philz if you plan to start with one of their awesome by-the-cup gourmet coffees. It takes time to put that much goodness in a cup.

This walk is a loop so the ending point is the same as the starting point.

Transit Tips--

Parking will be hard, maybe impossible. Here are a few transit options:

J-Church Metro to 24th Street and Church (6 blocks away) which connects to the BART system anywhere between Embarcadero and Civic Center

#24 Muni Bus to 24th Street and Castro (2 blocks away)

#48 Muni Bus stops right at 24th Street and Douglass

Attendance Policy--

The cancellation deadline is 4/27 at 11:00 pm in order to give people on the waiting list a reasonable chance to take an open spot. Late cancelling will be counted as a no-show. Review our no-show and late cancellation policy here.

Doggie Guest Rules--

Well-behaved dogs are welcome on this walk. See our doggie guest rules here.

Liability and Safety Tips--

You are responsible for your own safety on all City Steps walks. Your yes RSVP confirms that you have read and agree to our Liability Waiver Here and have reviewed our Safety Tips Here.

Terrific urban stairway hike with beautiful vistas, charming streets, a lovely, hidden garden path, and a fun, mini-park surprise.
    Thank you, Gilles!

More stairs and hills than I usually prefer, but a nice walk. Gille did a wonderful job leading us up and down all the hidden pathways. Loved the slide!

I am going to try the Stinson Beach - Cataract Falls hike tomorrow because I have never explored that route. I have been on the Eureka Valley walk once before and it's well worth it. Have fun, everybody!

The wait list has now been switched to manual. When a space opens, waitlisters will receive an email and the first person to accept the spot gets it. This ensures that those who move up to attending are still available and cuts down on unintentional no-shows.

Having emergency elder care issues and just don't know if I'll be able to go. Might, but ...
REALLY hope to do this again.
