'Living in Community' Salon -
Our friends at Living Mandala are offering a 2.5-hour experiential workshop led by trainer and consultant John Schinnerer, who led a similar workshop with us last fall to build capacity in San Francisco Cohousing. You will see how groups of different sizes and intentions can organize to get work done and coordinate decision-making through Sociocracy (a.k.a. Dynamic Governance). This is a whole systems approach finding use in cohousing, business, nonprofit, worker cooperative, or any group of people wanting to organize and govern themselves effectively and efficiently. Basic principles are equivalence and transparency, and optimizing group intelligence and wisdom while retaining respect for individual similarities and differences.
You will get tools AND a sneak preview of the extended weekend workshop John is leading there at a fraction of the cost --- then decide if you want to invest your time and money to followup in depth with your community or forming group.
John's workshops are all primarily experiential, offering participants an opportunity to engage directly with issues of governance and sociocratic structure and process in real-life contexts. Essential content delivery on values, principles etc. will be as interactive as possible.
Relevance will be focused on intentional communities (and creating and maintaining community in general). Most workshop time will be used for exercises that engage workshop participants with community living themes/issues and sociocratic approaches to governance.
John Schinnerer is a whole systems design consultant, teacher, and facilitator focusing on cultural and ecological design. Since 1996, he has studied, worked, taught and published in the realms of human relatings, governance and decisionmaking systems, appropriate technology and ecological design. His easygoing style and insightful approach support an optimal learning experience. The methods, tools and techniques that John offers invite maximum clarity, honesty, and integrity while enhancing efficiency and effectiveness – in other words, to get things done and have more fun!
Note: SF cohousing members are exploring sociocracy and other tools to help us have more fun together as we care for one another and run our community collectively.
