A Presentation on Cohousing with Charles Durrett and Kathryn McCamant

Charles Durrett and Kathryn McCamant of Durrett and McCamant Architects and the Cohousing Company will be speaking in San Francisco to present Cohousing to all who are interested in starting a community here in San Francisco!

Charles and Kathryn are credited with bringing cohousing to the US, are the authors of "Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities", and have worked with over 50 cohousing communities to date. They coined the term "cohousing" which is now in the Oxford English Dictionary!

Come and join Cohousing members, seekers, and others who would like to learn more about what cohousing is, and how we can make it happen in San Francisco.

"Creating Cohousing: Building Sustainable Communities" by architects Charles Durrett and Kathryn McCamant, outlines how anyone can custom-build their neighborhood to fit their needs and aspirations. This is housing organized by the residents, not for them, with an emphasis on independence and autonomy

The event will include a presentation that will be the perfect chance to find out more about living in a more supportive living environment.

A leading cohousing architect, Durrett has won numerous awards, including the United Nations World Habitat Award and the Best of 50+ Housing Award (National Home Builders Assoc. 2008). Durrett is credited with coining the term ‘cohousing’ and together with wife and professional partner, Kathryn McCamant, introduced cohousing projects to America.

**Refreshments and snacks will be provided**

I am happy that you gave the presentation in SF and that despite the event being right before the holidays, it was so well attended. Your presentation gives people a very detailed picture of what life is like in cohousing communities. The friend I brought along had a very positive impression.

Intelligent and educated presenters. What really inspired me was that Lauren, the person who organized this meet up. She gave a chance to many different groups of people to learn what is cohousing

This presentation & Q&A communicated vividly and with real examples what the EXPERIENCE of living in a co-housing community is like. When I took a Northern California co-housing tour, we only saw the outside and the descriptions and were left guessing what life was like there. It seemed too isolated. This presentation presented the connectedness (& intention to do so) of those in cohousing in a compelling manner.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
