Special Thursday contra with Rodney Miller and George Marshall

We're very, very lucky to have Rodney Miller coming to play our dance. Note that it's a special Thursday night dance, and that there will be no dance on our regular night of Saturday, April 6.

Come to the SF contra Thursday April 4 to dance to Rodney Miller, Owen Marshal and Chris Knepper (me), with George Marshall calling.

It doesn't get better than this! Rodney Miller, designated a "Master Fiddler" by the National Endowment for the Arts, is not only widely considered to be the foremost exponent of New England style fiddling, he has also been at the leading edge of bringing new influences into the contra music medium, beginning with his rock and roll infusions on his seminal recording Airplang.

If any of you made it to Dancing Fool Contra Weekend in Seattle this year, you danced to Owen Marshall's guitar playing in the Sevens. Owen plays in a number of popular New England bands, including Riptide.

George Marshall, probably the best known caller in the contra world, never disappoints.

I'll, uh, be playing mandolin with these guys...

AND

If you want to dance to these musicians more, along with Sam Bartlett's magical mandolin and Mark Hellenberg's stellar percussion, come to Epicenter Dance Weekend April 5-7 in Mill Valley. The camp will also feature the hot new contra band "The Mean Lids", on their first visit to California. Dance all weekend to great music and calling in a beautiful hall in beautiful Marin County. For more info, or to register, go to: http://www.nbcds.org/epicenter/ We hope to see you there.

And it was special! Kudosmto the musicians who were most excellent and lifted the roof. George called a great evening and kept us all flowing as one! And to fellow dancers, a great evening made by your presence!
