If there's one thing you can count on, it's for StringFire to find a great fiddler to work with. Having recently played great dances with Caroline McKaskey, Ben Schreiber and others, I've been told they're now working with a young virtuoso from the conservatory, James MacQueen. They say he's got great chops, which is good, since this band thrives on challenging modern contra tunes. Add to that Erik Ievens on Bass and Patti Cobb on keyboard, playing with rock rhythms and blues infusions, and you have the recipe for a great night of music.
Calling for us will be the legendary Fred Park from North Carolina. Erik Hoffman, who was originally asked to call this dance, has invited his longtime Fred to call instead. Fred has been invited to every major dance festival in the country, and is a renowned storyteller, dance writer and collector and MC as well. I haven't heard him for a long time, but I have a memory of him calling with a sultry Southern confidence that I had never heard before. Don't miss this unique opportunity.
