Bike the Golden Gate Bridge & Conzelman Road

Hey guys,

It's time again to get some road under us! This time we're going to ride over the GG and take Conzelman Road up to Hawk Hill and do the loop around Bunker Rd back to Sausalito.

If you've never done this ride before prepare to be amazed as I personally think it's one of most incredible rides you can do this close to the city with sweeping views of the GG, ocean and a fantastic downhill just after Hawk Hill.

Please note, I'm encouraging experienced riders only for this one as it does include a significant elevation gain on the way up to Hawk Hill.

Google maps puts the full route at about 12 miles after which we'll swing into Sausalito for lunch and then decide how we want to continue from there. Those pressed for time can easily take the ferry back to SF.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to ping me directly.

This is an awesome ride guys and if the weather cooperates you're in for an amazing time.

Cheers,
Stephen

That long downhill into Sausalito can be treacherous when it's windy. Sorry I couldn't make today's ride as I've done that route more than a few times.

Change of subject- our UI/UX designer/developer just dropped out of our consumer health start-up. Just launched a little stealthy site on Friday, www.PersonalHealthCloud.com. If you're curious or if you know anyone who might be a fit, I'd deeply appreciate an email introduction ([masked]).

I arrived late and missed you guys... Just finished Salalito and then took the ferry back. The weather turned out great! Sorry I missed you guys.

Thrown off my bike between the bridge and Salsalito... I think I'll stick with just biking Valencia for a few months. :-D

I'm at the warming hut, looking around for a mean squad of cyclists. Are you up on Long Ave somewhere?

Bike #1 has a flat or something, switching to bike #2. Biking up from the Mission. Should be there by ~11:15.

Well, not really gorgeous weather, but I'm still coming out! See you guys in about 45 on Long Ave at the Crissy Field Warming Hut

That is still prime time and it's going to be gorgeous weather. If you really want to avoid crowds as much as possible, you need to leave at 8 am. And, Brenda, that was a rather rude generalization. Cyclists could offer that pedestrians refuse to acknowledge cyclists and can't seem practice common courtesy by moving to one side of the pathway and sharing the space.

Excellent suggestion guys, and I do agree the bridge is a bit unwieldy given that the west side path is closed due to construction. I'll move the time to 11AM and try to get a vote on whether folks can make an 10AM start time. Thanks guys.

I do agree! Unfortunately I won't be there since I will be training elsewhere but I do recommend you guys to leave around 9-10 AM maximum!

My bike is all tuned up and ready for the ride on Sunday.

If I may give some advice... it would be to leave earlier. 12PM is prime time for tourists, and the bridge gets really, really crowded on the shared bike/ped side, with aggressive roadies just barreling into people and knocking them out of the way. It's a lot safer around 9 or 10AM, and a lot less stressful.

Sounds great, looking forward to it!
