All Grain Brew Day: Low Tech and High Tech

I'll be brewing out of my garage on with two different setups: 1) my old trusty cooler mash tun and 2) Blichmann Top Tier and Tower of Power setup.

This will be a chance for someone new to all grain to see how you can get to all grain with a fairly minimal investment with cooler mashtun or for someone with experience with all grain to see what some extra bells and whistles of a three burner system with automation can do for you.

My brew day usually starts at 10:00 a.m. and takes 5-6 hours. I was hoping at least one person is interested in participating in the whole brew day and can take charge of the cooler mash tun batch (with my help), but feel free to drop by at any point if you just want to check out the system(s).

Thanks to all those who showed up. It was lots of fun and I'm hoping that everyone learned a little something. It is always great to talk shop with fellow brewers and I definitely learned some new things throughout the day.

Thanks to Chris for bringing some beer and snacks and thanks to Scott for picking up the pizza.

Like I said at the meetup, if someone wants to borrow my cooler mash-tun set up to give all grain a try, I'm happy to let you borrow it. I'm hoping it can be equipment that gets passed around to new brewers looking to take the next step.

Looking forward to the next SFHG brew session.

Thanks for hosting, Dermot, that was fun! It's always so informative to see another brewers process. Thanks Scott for the pizza, that was much appreciated. It was great to see you all - Dermot, Scott, Matt, Pat, and Steve.

Okay, is everyone still in? We have a total of 15 people on the list, which will probably be too many people to fit in my garage. I don't mind people stopping by, but want to make sure the first 10 people that signed up get priority. If you can't make it, then please change your RSVP. See you all on Sunday!

Dermot - do you need people to pick up anything for the brew?

Last minute responsibility interfering with my brew nirvana! Enjoy all!

Pat, you are welcome to join. It will start to get packed if I have >10 people in my garage, but I'm sure people will come and go throughout the day, so no big deal.

    I'm still planning on going.

I'm the only one on the wait list. Is it cool of I show up?

    May 10, 2013

I'm guessing it would be OK, Pat. With the changed date I'm guessing there are a couple folks who won't be able to make it who RSVP'd. I'll check in with Dermot before the brew day to make sure we're all set.

Sorry, but I had an unplanned work trip pop into my schedule and had to change date. I hope this new dates works for people who are already RSVP'd.

Hey Dermot - I changed the RSVP settings to cap the number of attendees at 10 with an automatic wait list. If you want to change it, you can edit the information again.

So I would say to the folks who do sign up to come, please actually go since there are limited slots!

Sounds good. I don't think I really need someone to be there the whole time, but if I can have an extra set of hands at key points in the process it will be very helpful. I should probably cap this brew day at ~ 10 people, b/c it will be tough to fit more people in my garage.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
