China Camp ride

We'll meet at the kiosk at the entrance to the China Camp State Park campground (right off N. San Pedro Road), and ride a roughly 14-16 mile loop. Parking is free and very easy on the shoulders of N. San Pedro Road. The route will be: climbing up Bay View, to Echo, to the top of the old Nike radar site, down around the back side, back up the fire road (backtracking to Echo), down Echo, across to the east side of the park on Bay View and Oak Ridge, and then back to the starting point on Shoreline.

The track is fast-rolling hard-packed dirt singletrack, with a few short paved road and fireroad connector sections. There is not much sustained climbing because the highest point in the park is only somewhere around 900 feet. The route is maybe 90% beginner and intermediate singletrack, with a few tricky advanced sections on the back side of the hill which require caution.

I'm setting a limit of 10 riders for this one because I want to make sure we can keep the group together for the entire ride. We'll ride at a social pace, with no rider left behind.

Hope to see you all out there! Maybe some lunch at Sol Food in San Rafael after the ride?

Please ride the group's rider responsibility and liability statement:

Check for ticks everyone. I had one. It has been a heavy tick season in Marin this spring. They love the rain sprinkles we have had this week.

Thanks for coming out today everyone. Great to see everyone, and it was great to meet you Steph and Kelsey and Cory! Hope to see everyone again soon out on the trails. I forgot to ask everyone if there's interest for a Skeggs ride next weekend, I guess I'll just post it and find out that way. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Thanks for setting this up Kent. I now know that I am out of shape and am not as ready as I thought I was to tackle china camp. I have a long road ahead of me, but it was a blast.

Cory - it was good to meet you! Don't worry about the shape thing, just keep chipping away at it and you'll soon be rocketing up that trail.

Likewise, no worries Cory. You'll be in riding shape in no time and we'll see you on another one!

Hey Ollie & Mirza - I have room for 2 (my boyfriend is also coming up, and hoping to join for the ride if there is space, or else will ride solo). It's an Impreza so depending on your heights, can't promise it will be super comfy, but you are welcome to a seat! I've got a roof rack and a back rack so should be able to handle 2 more bikes. Let me know.

R helmets required? I can't remember because I haven't been to china camp in a while. I put my helmet in a box and can't find it at the moment.

    April 5, 2013

    • Kent

Hey Cory, I have an extra helmet (size L) that you can use and I can bring tomorrow if you can't find yours. Just let me know in the morning before 9 a.m. if you need it. I'll check the comments here tomorrow before I head up to Marin.

Wow, that's awesome Steph. Way to come to the rescue with rides for others! And your boyfriend is totally welcome to join us tomorrow, too. I ordinarily have room for another rider and bike in my vehicle, but I won't tomorrow because I'm not going back to SF right after the ride/lunch.

Also looking for a ride. There's bus 80 which leaves SF at 8.00am and goes pretty much all the way there. Or the ferry to Larkspur!
