Let's do a fun ride from the city to Biketoberfest in Fairfax, via the Marin Headlands + Mt Tam. The festivities start at 11am, so leaving around 9am will give us a few hours for an easy pace ride there, planning to arrive by noonish. Hang out at the festival for a couple hours, grab lunch and beers and check out the booths, then head back to the city. Around 48 miles round trip.

There will be some sustained climbing, up Conzelman to the Coastal Trail, and up Miwok. Then it's Tennesse Valley down to Tam Junction, and down into Fairfax via the Sausalito Bike Path, Camino Alto, etc. ~60/40 roads and easy trails; good for beginners. We'll happily wait and regroup at the top of all the longer climbs. I'll map out an exact route with mileage and elevation details in a few days, but here's the general route idea:

If we want a larger mix of trails the distance and elevation go way up -- maybe we can do that on the way there, then stick to more direct roads on the way back? I'm open to suggestions.

Admission to the event is FREE; the beer tents are CASH ONLY, and don't forget your ID! More details:

Hey guys, since it's just the 3 of us, are you guys up for a 80% trails route option on the way there? It's not much more mileage, but a LOT more elevation gain, going over Mt Tam up Miwok to Gravity Car to Old Railroad Grade, then down Colier to Lake Lagunitas:

Kent, I know you're up for a good amount of climbing, and this puts the time estimate up to ~4.5 hours instead of ~3. Sean, how are you with more climbing on the way there? We could always take the Larkspur ferry back to SF, if we're too tired (or drunk) to ride back.

Howdy, I'll most likely ride TamaRancho in the AM and meet everyone afterwards at Biketoberfest.
