GP Sutro: Tuesday Night Loops

This is a weekly group ride, alternating every other Tuesday and Wednesday.

Warmup on Valencia to Glen Park, then through the park trails towards Twin Peaks. A steep climb or two, followed by one or two (or three?) laps around the Mt. Sutro trails. Back down to the Mission from Stanyan via 17th St, likely ending at food and/or beer. The most fun you can have in the city on a Tuesday night, and great training for longer night and weekend rides.

Roughly 9-10 mile loop, with 3-4 miles of actual trails. The trails are all legal, including some moderately technical singletrack with switchbacks and exposure.

Bring: helmet, good lights (that will actually light up the trail), and a spare tube (correct for your wheels) at minimum. The trails are mostly easy rolling singletrack and not normally difficult, but this is NOT a beginner ride given the lighting conditions and short technical sections.

Usually we grab beers and something to eat at Zeitgeist after the ride. They have safe bike parking on the inner patio, but it's limited so bring a lock if you can.

Setting a limit of 8 riders, to make sure we can keep the group together for the entire ride. We'll ride at a social pace, with no rider left behind.

First timers, please ride the group's rider responsibility and liability statement:

Hope to see you all out there!

If anyone is interested in day riding Annadel this upcoming Labor Day 9/1 hit me up, it's a bit technical (rocky) but worth it. I can fit 3 bikes including mine own & could meet at West Oakland BART station.

Sounds like fun, but I already committed to a crazy long road ride on Labor Day!

Check out the full moon ride in two weeks that we're doing instead of Sutro... it's a longer ride than usual, and a super fun one!

This is pretty cool, it'll be on our route to Glen Park from Dolores: http://www.sfbike.org/news/coming-to-the-mission-next-year-san-franciscos-first-raised-bikeway/

Next week for sure since it'll be the last one before the race, but I think we'll stick with Sutro tonight. Weather is too good not to!

Hi, I just joined the group and I'm new to mountain biking. So after reading the description now I'm looking for a good headlight that "will actually light up the trail). Any product recommendations? Any idea what would be a nice brightness (lumen) for this meet up and nighttime mountain biking in general? Thanks!

Anything 600 lumens or above will do the trick. The Light and Motion Urban 400 would be a great one for under $100. If you want to go all out, there's a daily special on the Taz 1200 on biketiresdirect.com today for $180, which is pretty much the best bar-mounted light out there for MTB right now in my opinion.
