I just sent out an email to group, but am posting this here as well. Sorry for any annoying redundancy...


I work on the recruiting team at Netflix, and we are looking to hire a Sr. Tools Engineer for our Enterprise Applications Development team. It will be heavily focused around developing internal monitoring tools while working heavily in Perl and/or Python (Perl preferred). I have posted the job description below. Sr. Tools Engineer – Perl/Scripting
Los Gatos, CA

The Enterprise Applications Development team is responsible for Netflix's monitoring systems which monitor 1000's of systems in production, messaging which manages millions of messages every day, enterprise applications and the tools across the company used by engineering, IT, Marketing, distribution centers and almost all departments.
As a member of EAD, you will be part of a team of highly skilled and experienced engineers who work with other teams in EVERY aspect of Netflix’s business. This means you won’t just be heads down in a cubicle. Instead, you will working very closely with cross-functional teams to design, develop, manage and support solutions for various functions of the company.

• You are highly dependable and require very little mentoring

Required Skills and Attributes:

• 10+ years of experience in software development and prior experience working in IT groups
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Desire to work in a fast paced dynamic environment
• Ability to take a project to timely completion with minimal oversight and specification
• Expert developer skills in many of scripting disciplines like Perl, Python (this should have been your primary skills in your recent past positions)
• Solid expertise in SQL and database design principles (Oracle, MySQL & MS SQL)
• Proven proficiency in working with structured data (XML, JSON)
• Practical experience in large scale implementations handling high volume transactions
• Ability to rapidly develop simple web based UIs and APIs using Apache, Tomcat and MySQL
• Solid *nix sysadmin experience (not just basic working knowledge of *nix)
• Expertise in shell scripting, both Unix and Windows (expertise in shell is a must)
• Understanding of SNMP, JMX
• Working experience with portal technologies (Liferay portal a plus)
• Proficient understanding of the principles of Enterprise monitoring (Nimsoft a plus)
• Good understand of Java and ability to fluently write code in Java is highly desirable

Nice to Haves:

• Lua scripting languages
• Experience with Groovy, Jython
• Windows administration experience
• Nimsoft monitoring/enterprise monitoring
