Passion In Our Career Change and Job Hunt

  • Oct 29, 2013 · 9:00 AM
  • Valencia Gardens

In recent meetings at SFPCN, we spent time developing our brand--who we are in the workplace--and by extension, what we are looking for in a career. This week, we will work this again from an entirely different perspective.

Guest speaker Ivan Temes will lead us to explore and discover what we are passionate about, what excites us, what makes us truly happy, where we are most creative. Through presentation and exercises, we will gain insight that will help us build our confidence, overcome our negativity and ultimately provide us with important keys to help focus our career advancement.

As a special takeaway, we will:

• Practice how to powerfully close an interview

• Receive a copy of Ivan’s "11 Commandments of Care.”

We hope to see you on Tuesday.

NOTE: No SFPCN on Election Day November 5. Our meeting room will be used as a polling place.

A tool I've found really useful in the job searching process is Signals by HubSpot.

    bit.ly/getsignals

It's a Gmail plugin that tells you when someone opens your email; that way you can tell if they're still considering you or not! Another tool I like is Yesware which is similar, but I like Signals better.

This sounds like a very interesting discussion. I'm ready to do exactly the opposite and toss what makes me passionate -- writing, editing, communications -- if I can't re-ignite my career in six months. I've been a journalist for 33 years, the last three as a part-timer. A lot of doors are getting slammed in my face. Is there a time when you must give up what excites you? Yes, unfortunately. Meanwhile, I'll give PR a shot. It's the only profession in my field expected to grow well through 2020 ...
