Dare to Dream: Awakening New Possibilities for Life after Loss

  • Dec 4, 2012 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Being in job and career you know what it is like to experience the stress of the unknown. With so much on the line it is easy to get into "survival mode" and to give up hope for living the life of your dreams.

In 1998, dissatisfied with their lives, Karen Mehringer and her husband left the security of their corporate jobs, rented out their home and embarked on a life-altering six-month sailing odyssey traveling from Fiji to Singapore in search of their true dreams.

During this engaging presentation, not only does Karen bring to life her time on the boat and the changes this experience inspired in her, but she shares her personal journey through grief and loss beginning with the death of her brother, just four months after returning from overseas, and how this eventually led her to doing the work that she loves today.

Her compelling message is, Sailing into our dreams isn't all about calm seas and sunny skies, but it is about saying YES to life, no matter what the weather.

During this presentation, you will:

  • Get in touch with your passions and feeling of aliveness

  • Find out what is calling you NOW

  • Open up to new possibilities for living your dreams

  • Create a game plan for moving forward

I thoroughly enjoyed the presentation. Karen's story and energy were both very inspiring to me. My mom passed three months ago and I am just now awakening to new possibilities for my life. I really enjoyed the partner exercise that we did where we shared what our passions are with our partner. That was very energizing. Equally energizing were the thought-provoking questions that Karen posed to us to awaken our mind to those new possibilities. "Are you in survival mode playing it safe?" "Is your sailboat sill sitting in the safe harbor?" My answer after today's meetup is "No, not anymore!"

I enjoyed the meetup and talk (about getting in touch with your passion). I got some new ideas for my job search. It was helpful to be around others in the same boat while expanding our horizons in terms of opportunities.
