For our first event, we will be diving in to iPython with a talk hosted by the team that built it!

Join us for an exploration of the newest release iPython 0.13 - (http://ipython.org/)

We will be:

-listening to a talk by Fernando Perez (https://github.com/fperez)

-exploring some of the basic and advanced functionality of the shell & notebook

-taking some time to play around with the features ourselves

Please bring your laptop with iPython installed so you can benefit from hands on experience.

Drinks and appetizers will be provided and we will have time after the presentation to hang out and socialize.

Great talk by Fernando, covered a lot of ground at a good pace. Lots of questions were answered and there were plenty of chances to follow along and try things out on my laptop.

Anyone else have trouble/suggestions for installing iPython on Windows 7? i am getting a error about no python found in my registry but i have Python3.2 installed and working.

Cursory googling says i should add a REG file but i'm scared to edit my registry. any tips?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble, is this happening with our binary installer or are you using something else? In order to get all the ipython machinery running (with notebook and other goodies), the easiest path on Windows is probably to install the Enthought Python Distribution (EPD Free) or PythonXY. I hope this helps, don't hesitate to ask on our mailing list where all the developers hang out and we may be able to help better.

The presentation was very informative, gave a good overview of iPython, and had some references to other interesting work/tools.

Heard a lot about the rich features of iPythin that I was not aware of. Probably I won't use all but it is good to be aware of what iPython can already do.

Will there be wifi? I don't have a laptop that can run ipython well, but if there's wifi I could ssh to my desktop at home, or use the web notebook.

There will be wifi - but there might be a lot of people using it so anyone that has a 3G card might want to bring that as well.

P.S. - sorry about the onslaught of emails this morning, I was updating the event location and couldn't get the map to find our office - apparently it was sending an email each time... oops

Excellent! I'm excited to meet everyone. Quick question - "Drinks and appetizers will be provided" is there a fee for this? If so, how much, and do we pay there or before?

Hey Justin - no charge - for this meetup, drinks will be provided by our sponsor (and my employer) Hearsay Social. We'll figure out future events when we get there.
