Brief Overview:

This group IS: an informal, interactive discussion forum that explores interesting and perplexing contemporary social issues. Think of it as a bit like a seminar discussion.

This group is NOT: a debate, a competition, a place for propaganda

Background / Extended Description:

Do you love to talk about the things you see in the news, significant historical and cultural legacies, important political developments, or just the state of contemporary life? I find that it has become increasingly difficult to have those intelligent (yet spontaneous and unplanned), inquisitive conversations that used to keep me and my friends up to the wee hours of the morning. We learned a lot about ourselves, each other, and the multitude of perspectives that can exist on any given topic. It is from conversations like this that we can truly hope to understand others and the backgrounds and experiences that lead to the unique point of view that they bring to the table.

In the hustle and bustle of work life, my discussions with people tend to gravitate towards quotidian and mundane topics, such as: how the day at work went; what the traffic was like on 101; or the awkwardness of modern dating. These topics, while important and interesting, do not always quench my thirst for an enriching discussion.

Thus, I was hoping to bring together people who would like to explore important social issues in an informal, interactive setting where we can respectfully share our ideas and viewpoints, in an effort to achieve intellectual stimulation, mutual understanding, and and overall sense of enlightenment. That may sound a bit lofty - but I think it's doable. If a meaningful conversation about a social issue is something you find exciting, please get in touch with me.
