Meet at the Muir Woods entrance. Warm up along the Redwood Trail before chugging up the Heather Cutoff. Grind out the Coastal Fire Road climb with epic views to Stinson Beach returning to Muir Woods via the Ben Johnson "flume".
here is a map.
generally it's pink loop up - orange down. (with an extension to pantoll for water)
*The heather cutoff is especially cool with a group. It's narrow with tons of switchbacks - good for momentum.
**an optional / additional 5mi loop follows the Fern Creek, Redwood, Sun and Dipsea trails for a punchy climb followed by rolling and downhill terrain with great footing. Combining both loops is the "14mi long run" for week #3 of the training schedule below...this is most of the orange loop.
The meeting spot is THE ENTRANCE to the park. there are several benches there. it's where the drop off lot and busses are. not to be confused with a visitor center / gift shop INSIDE the park. call me BEFORE SATURDAY if yer not familiar and want more description. I doubt you can get a cell signal there for help if yer confused. [masked]
heat - come early to ensure we are running at 9am in cooler air. the climb is exposed.
water - I will stash water at the heather cut off.
fast / slow - I suspect anyone planning on doing both loops will be charging a little harder on loop #1 which works well since they can get going on loop #2 sooner so we all finish together (kind of). i'm game for some lawn time at the pelican inn afterwards and hope to see everyone there eventually (the contingency plan). they have fat pitchers and pub fare. bring yer blankie and beanbags.
if you suspect the heat, an injury or hangover will have you pacing slower than the pack, consider establishing a buddy on the same program and watch out for ea other. everyone should print out and carry the map if u don't know the route.
