Western Snowy Plover Walk About

You are invited to join Brent Plater of the Wild Equity Institute for a leisurely walk along Ocean Beach to search for the threatened Western Snowy Plover. This small shorebird is highly threatened by human activities and habitat degradation. Join us to see this adorable species in its native habitat and learn ways that you can help before it is too late!

Meet at the patch of grass at the intersection of Taraval and the Great Highway - 2400 Great Highway.

The L Taraval Muni train stops two blocks from our meeting point. Check http://www.511.org for details

For those of you that were intrigued by the medical examiner's truck and police activity that we spotted at the end of the outing, here is an article with more details http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/place/article/Severed-foot-in-shoe-washes-up-on-Ocean-Beach-4817051.php YIKES!

i was wondering & never would have looked it up...wow...thanks for posting link...maybe that is why the beach patrol guys were not as focused on the snowy plovers as they could have been!

Please post your pictures from Sunday. I will add camera to my packing list for future outings, but I think some of you will still have lenses far superior to mine :)

Wow! An amazing day at the beach. We saw Marbled Godwits, Sanderlings, and....4 Snow Plover, plus many other birds. Thanks to everyone that came along. It was a good day for bird nerds. And those of you that missed it, we look forward to seeing you next time.

The starting point for this walk is super accessible by public transit, but if you need a ride from outside of San Francisco this is the thread for arranging carpools :)

Looking fwd to this walk! After our walk today @Mori Pt, Tat & I went down to Ocean Beach Lands End and it was just beautiful: great weather and calm wind and many tourists and visitors. I realized it's been years since I came down b/c there is now a VISITOR'S CENTER ! i walked the coastal trail and meandered around Sutro Baths...and what Brett said today abt how making Sharp Pt Park managed by the Parks was an excellent idea and i saw how the renovations that has been done at Ocean Beach have been great improvements for tourism. (The beach also looks alot cleaner. Last time we passed by it was kind of gross, charred colored sand).
