Learn about Butterflies & Explore the Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge

You are invited to join the Wild Equity Institute and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on a guided tour of the Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge. This is an opportunity to visit a unique area normally closed to the public. The Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge is home to three highly endangered species: the Lange’s Metalmark Butterfly, the Contra Costa Wallflower, and the Antioch Dunes Evening Primrose.

The hike is schedule to be an hours, but sometimes we get to chatting and looking at stuff that it goes a a bit longer.

Meet at the Antioch Dunes National Wildlife Refuge Entrance Gate, 501 Fulton Shipyard Road, Antioch, CA 94509. Take Highway 4 and exit A Street / Lone Tree Way. Turn North onto A Street. Turn right (East) onto Wilbur Avenue. Turn left (North) onto Fulton Shipyard Road. Cross over the railroad tracks and turn right into the second gravel driveway. The refuge is on your right. Here is a link with a map and directions http://wildequity.org/locations/3143

Wear sturdy shoes for this sandy 1.5 mile hike. No facilities.

You can learn more about these three species at:

Would anyone like to carpool? I can pick people up from El Cerrito BART or Del Norte BART. Contribution for gas/mileage appreciated.
