Post #: 1
Location: San Francisco, CA – SOMA
Position: Kiva Event Management - Book Launch Intern
Term: 6 months 2 days a week
Start Date: January 10th, 2013

The Company
Kiva connects millions of people around the world through micro-lending to alleviate poverty. Together with its lenders and Field Partners, the company provides borrowers with the seed capital they need to generate a sustainable income, improve their homes, go to school, and more. So far, this approach has helped Kiva fund more than $363 million in loans for over 887,771 borrowers in more than 66 countries. Today, we're focused on launching Kiva in more countries, and creating loan products that can make a real difference in people's lives.
Job Description

The Kiva Event Management - Book Launch Intern will work with both the development and marketing teams to promote a book that will be released in March 2013 that highlights the amazing stories of one of Kiva’s lenders, Bob Harris, as he travels the world visiting some of the borrowers in his portfolio (http://www.bobharris.....
Bob’s book, entitled “The International Bank of Bob” is a great rallying point for Kiva’s community of lenders, donors and lending teams. We see his book as the ideal opportunity to share Kiva’s stories through the eyes of a lender, and to learn about the economic and political contexts of some of the countries where we operate. Kiva would like to use the book as a call to action to our community, and using our amazing network of lenders, we plan to help Bob organize a U.S. book tour starting in March 2013.

The Kiva Event Management - Book Launch Intern will help coordinate this U.S. book tour with Bob and his publisher by doing select outreach to our major lenders and lending teams. The aim will be to organize 10-15 events across the U.S. with the help of a base of volunteers. Ideally we will cluster a few events in a given geography thereby maximizing Bob’s travel and time. There will also be opportunities to suggest other means of promoting Bob’s book – we encourage creativity in this role!

The ideal individual for this position is a self-starter who loves event planning, coordinating volunteers and thinking strategically and creatively about promotional opportunities. Past experience coordinating book launch events is a major plus. This is an unpaid internship.
