Hi, there! Welcome to our new group, San Francisco Yoga and Meditation for Self-Awareness! This group is designed for people who are searching for a yoga practice that soothes beyond the endless chatter of city life and creates space for you to heighten understanding of the most important person in your life --you.
So how does that translate into a yoga class and what can I expect? Good question! Using scientifically tested and validated exercises to decrease stress such as guided meditation and visualization, pranayama (breathing exercises), mantra chanting to quiet the inner mind chatter, and progressive muscle relaxation, we dedicate one full hour each week to enhance individual consciousness, and in effect, the consciousness of our communities to which we belong. Here you will find a harmonious blend of postures, pranayama, mantra, music and meditation. The movements we use are a blend of restorative, yin yoga, and Kundalini Yoga.
You may be wondering, what is Kundalini? Good question. Kundalini is called the yoga of awareness because it focuses on not just physical movements, but on the movement of energy in the body to expand sensory awareness. Considered an advanced form of yoga and meditation, its purpose is to cultivate the creative spiritual potential of a human to uphold values, speak truth, and focus on the compassion and consciousness needed to serve and heal. Whatever age, whatever level of fitness, come and join us. Everyone is graciously welcomed!
Classes are taught by Amy Swart, a RYT 200 yoga instructor who studied under Swami Santhi Santhisprasad in the South India, and several years later, under Sarah Powers in her Yin Yoga teacher training. She is also a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. Please visit www.amyswart.com and www.visionkeeperart.com if you wish to learn more.
