SJ Indie FIlm - Mystery - a Cinequest film

No vote this month. We will be seeing the Chinese film, Mystery at Cinequest. I saw the movie last Friday and highly recommend it. It is a mystery, a drama, and a great work from modern China. The film is sponsored by Nathan Louie, the delightful Chinese-American man who greets you outside Camera 12, always wearing very fancy tuxedos. Also this film is showing at the San Jose Rep - a rare treat, we only see films there during Cinequest.

I will  try to meet and greet you outside the Rep after the film.

If you're up for seeing another film, please take a look at the Cinequest schedule - there are 6 more films showing after 9 PM. The new screenings for Cinequest end on Saturday - Sunday they will be showing films that received most note during the festival. Sunday night closes with a film co-written by Salman Rushdie and an award presentation to Mr. Rushdie.

If you use Twitter, please follow the hastags #sjindie, #cinequest and #cqff.

As usual, please leave comments on this event if you want to meet others for dinner beforehand.

Film was interesting and disturbing in how the women were desperate and willing to accept abuse. Nice dinner and conversation.

I agree with Mike, a 2.5 out of 4. Good film, not bad, but didn't really grab me too much. Great night out though. Thanks everybody!

The film was 2.5 stars on the 4 star scale. Not as memorable for sure as Dose of Reality.

I made a reservation for 6 people at House of Siam at 5:30 pm. It's under my name. If anyone else plans to come to dinner, would you please add that to this meetup's comments? Thanks!

I have already seen it, so I'll be elsewhere. If you run into Palo Alto Indie group, don't be shy, you can sit with them, too!

I will try to make dinner at Siam. I may see "Tango Abrazos" instead which is playing at the same time. Does anyone want to go Bijan for coffee/dessert after the movie? This is the place we often go to and is next to the Fairmont.

Looks like our wires crossed - I take it that you prefer House of Siam over Hanuman, so I will change that.

530PM for Thai sounds great. House of Siam, 151 South 2nd Street San Jose CA, 95113 Tel: (408)[masked]

    OK - 5:30 at Hanuman.
I will reserve for a few extra people in case others join us.

Thai sounds good to me! 5:30pm?

    March 7, 2013

  • Mike A.

    Thai would be grand

    March 7, 2013

Would you consider Thai instead? Sorry - just not a fan of the Indian place. Hanuman Thai Cuisine down the block on San Fernando is quite good. If not, no worries!

I would be up for dinner before. Indian place right next to Johnny Rockets?

Are folks meeting before or after the movie for dinner??

    March 7, 2013

  • Donna G.

    I'll be there.

Since many people aren't familiar with the Rep and it has, as I remember it, a long narrow lobby, please pick a specific place to meet. Otherwise a new person won't have a clue and some of the rest of us will have a hassle, not knowing if we are meeting inside or outside ; )

Glenn, can you suggest a spot for us to meet as it seems you will not be there before the movie starts?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
