SJ Indie FIlm - Trance, at 7:10

With 15 people voting, we have chosen Trance (58%), with The Sapphires close behind (54%). Trance plays at Camera 7 (Pruneyard) at 7:10. As usual we will adjourn to the adjacent Coffee Society for discussion after the film.

If anyone wants to meet for dinner, please post your ideas in the comments. Since I am coming from Santa Cruz, I can't easily make dinner plans.

I also want to point out, for our cultists (Diane), "The Room" is playing both Friday and Saturday night at Camera 3, AND the creator of this awful film will be there at 9:30, both nights.

FYI, here were our choices:

The Sapphires (Cam7) - 1968, four Aussie aboriginal gals in a Motown-like story. Premiered at Cinequest.

42 (Cam 7,12) - 1946, beginning of the end of prejudice in baseball

Gimme the Loot (Cam3)  - Bronx graffiti taggers - a hit at Cannes

No Place on Earth (Cam3)  - doc about Ukraine caves inhabited by Jews in WW2 - wow!

Trance (Cam7)  - must be on our list because it's by Danny Boyle

Thanks everyone, I enjoy these after-film comments. Yep, it was unrealistic, but well-made, acted, and enjoyable to watch.

I would say Trance is an enjoyable piece of film-making. The thinness of the plot did not bother me that much because it was a pleasure to watch it. Plenty of primary colors and sounds. No that challenging but a nice way to end the work week. The commentary afterwards was a highlight for sure.

Unconvincing female mastermind. The real talents are the conversationists in the after movie party.

There is a screening of "Granito How to Nail a Dictator" at the SJ Peace and Justice Center that I would like to attend. Sorry to change my RSVP.

Darn, I just realized I'm doublebooked. If you end up going at 8 pm, I can make it. :-(

I'm up for any of them, so I don't think my vote is particularly meaningful....

Also The Company You Keep might be interesting for boomers, plus my b-in-law wrote the book.
