Happy 2013 from the San Antonio Natural Hair Meetup!

Hello Naturalistas (and a few gentlemen),

We are currently in full swing for 2013! I wanted to take a moment to say “Welcome” to all of our new members from 2012 (boy were there a lot of you!) We grew by leaps and bounds within the last year, to the point where I could no longer greet everyone individually. But I do want to let you know that you are welcomed and appreciated, and if you haven’t attended an event yet, we look forward to meeting you.

What have we been up to lately? Last year featured some great events, including:

1) National Natural Hair Meetup Day (1st annual hopefully)

2) Natural Stylist Q&A’s

3) Natural Hair Care and Styles Tutorials & Workshops

4) Soul Food Potluck and Game Day

5) Attending San Antonio’s first-ever Natural Hair Expo, plus expos across Texas

6) Trips to Whole Foods in Austin

7) Product Swaps

8) Concerts

9) Black History Events

10) Charity & Community Events

11) Various other social events

So what’s in store for 2013? I’d like to keep these up, and add other fun things along the way. But to do this, I’m going to need lots of help! Personally, I’ve been planning and counting down to my wedding in March (yay!), and along the way, we found out we’re expecting our first baby this summer (double yay!!).

I’m looking for volunteer and assistant organizers willing to help dream of and coordinate events. These can be as small or elaborate as you can handle. Sometimes it’s as simple as picking a date, time and showing up first to the event. I believe that this group belongs to all of you, so I want us to be doing what you all are interested in. Anyone is welcome to post a suitable group event to the website.

If you would like to assist, or are even willing to test-host one event, please “reply,” and let’s discuss some ideas. If you are, or know, a natural hair stylist interested in educating the group, please contact me.

Whether you are an oldie or a newbie, I appreciate you making the San Antonio Natural Hair Meetup what it has become. I’m proud of all we have accomplished in over 5 years, and I look forward to more fun, fellowship and hair education in the year ahead of us.

Peace, Love & Nappiness,

Briana Flowers
