December San Diego Corgi Meetup - Corgi Caroling in Balboa Park

Corgi Caroling thru Balboa Park!!!

We'll meet at sunset(4:47pm) at Nate's Point for a little pre-caroling romp. At 5:30PM, we'll leash-up and decorate our corgis with bells & glow necklaces for a corgi parade across the Laurel Street Bridge to the Bea Evenson Fountain. On the way back, we'll pass the Lilly Pond and stop at Lady Carolyn's Pub, which has pup friendly outdoor seating, warm apple bread pudding, hot chocolate, cappuccino, and irish coffee. Perfect treats to warm-up every corgi owner, both inside and out.

No caroling required... the pups will do the howling for us.

BRING: your decorated dogs, ready for caroling! Holiday attire, sweaters, collars, or colorful scarfs are suggested, but not necessary. Some corgis prefer not wearing clothes, and that's ok.  This year, I already have enough bells and glow necklaces for 75 corgis! I'll have blue glow sticks for those celebrating Hanukkah. Bring additional light sticks, necklaces/bracelets or other corgi lights, if you want.  Battery operated LED's work great too because they don't get hot.

Join in on THE HOLIDAY PILE by BRINGing a small unwrapped toy or treat. Once at the fountain, we'll throw all the toys & treats in a holiday pile, then let our corgis nose around, one at a time, to pick one to take home!

HELP NEEDED: It's time again to request small contributions from our members to help offset the cost of our Meetup website and its great communication tools. I really do need your help. I don't want to charge an annual membership fee, or charge an attendance fee to cover incidentals like the bells and glow necklaces for this Meetup, or the Howl-O-Ween prizes. That ruins the fun and discourages people from attending. We have 40-60 people who participate every month (plus a bunch of other members too). If everyone at a single Meetup contributed $5, that would cover everything and I would not need to ask again for a year. We're asking for just $5 per dog! What a deal! PLEASE keep the fun going by dropping a few bucks into the MONEY JAR. I'll have it with me at the dog park, at the gate where we exit the park on leash, and at the pub. Thank you.

DIRECTIONS: Nate's Point is located on the West Mesa of Balboa Park, immediately south of El Prado / Laurel Street and east of Balboa Drive. SEE MAPClick here for larger map.

From the North: take 163 S toward downtown. Exit at University Ave (exit 2C). Merge onto 6th Ave. Turn Left at El Prado. Turn R (one way) on Balboa Dr and park on the street. From the East and South: take 94 West to/or Interstate 5 North. Exit at 6th Ave (exit 16B). Turn Right. Turn Right at El Prado. Turn R (one way) on Balboa Dr and park on the street.

Rain will cancel this event.

Light up the night as part of an unforgettable procession of jingling, glowing corgis as we meander thru Balboa Park.

Maxie and I cannot attend this evening, as we had to take our Grandma Australian Shepherd Girl to cross the Rainbow Bridge today.

Rest well my Tesi Girl. I am missing you so much, my hearts aches for you. I pray that your Spirit is now happy to be released from your physical pain, and that you are able to run, jump, and bark like you used to. I hope there is lots of meatloaf for you to eat, and Jelly Bellies too! I hope there are waves in Heaven for you to play in, and maybe even people on bicycles and Harley's for you to bark at!! I love you and miss you so much,., it really does hurt ......

    • Booboo and W.

I'm so terribly sorry. 13.5 is a good life. Hang in there. I'm sure Tesi wouldn't have had it any other way. Dog bless you!

I had the same surgery several years ago - so just relax and take it easy and things will be fine. A few corgi kisses might help.

Oh my, I see 83 RSVP's! Good thing I stocked up on bells and glow necklaces. I have more than enough bells with hand tied, reinforced attachments. I have enough glow necklaces for 100 pups. That should be enough because many of you come pre-lit! Maybe a couple people, who are out and about and happen to come across glow bracelets (Michael's or 99cent store), could bring a few? The brighter the herd the better!

Do you guys know about how far the walk is? Maggie has a hard time with much over a mile.

If you don't want to walk across the Laurel Street bridge, you could park closer to the Old Globe and join along the way; but you'll miss the pre-caroling play.

      December 17, 2013

  • Jennifer G.

What is the best lot to park in?

    December 16, 2013

    • Colette and Tucker & T.

No lot. look at the map.

      December 16, 2013

    • Geri

Jennifer, there is "street" parking within the park near the dog park, though some people just park wherever and do the extra walking to get to the dog park.

We're hoping Mocha will attend this event as last night she had liver surgery, and a mass the size of an orange was removed. She's stable but the pain medication is depleting her appetite. We want her to come home as soon as she can. She took part in last weekend's dog parade in Carlsbad. We bought a Radio Flyer wagon for that event so we'd like to have her use that for Corgi caroling if she feels like it. Please put her in your prayers for a speedy recovery. Thanks!

I am having a very sad week here in our home. Our oldest lady is 13 1/2 (an Australian Shepherd, retired TDI Service Dog) has very large tumors under her armpits..they are solid, and make her walking almost impossible now. Tesi is also experiencing deafness and blindness,..she can hear sharp sounds,..and see shadows. I have to lift her onto our deck after she has gone to potty (this is new, she was managing OK for quite a while) Tesi will not/refuses to go on a mat or anything else inside. Today, I surrendered and left a message for my friend, Roger,..our/Tesi's Vet.

I have NEVER had to have my own dog 'put to sleep',..though I have taken family member's dogs for them because they couldn't deal with it. I am dealing with it, though it is oh so heart breaking.

I just needed to tell 'someone'.

    Thank you for listening.

Love, Tesi, Cheyenne, and Maxie..and me.
