December San Diego Corgi Meetup - Corgi Caroling in Balboa Park

Corgi Caroling thru Balboa Park!!!

WEATHER UPDATE 12/15 am: Great News! Looks to be partly cloudy with less than a 10% chance of rain tonight during our Meetup! Bundle up, because it will be a cool 57° (cool only if you live in San Diego).

WEATHER UPDATE 12/13: 40% chance of rain on Saturday morning. Fortunately the evening looks clear for corgis. Please check back here before heading out.

We'll meet at sunset(4:44pm) at Nate's Point for a little pre-caroling romp. At 5:30PM, we'll leash-up and decorate our corgis with bells & glow necklaces for a corgi parade across the Laurel Street Bridge to the Bea Evenson Fountain. On the way back, we'll pass the Lilly Pond and stop at Lady Carolyn's Pub, which has pup friendly outdoor seating, warm apple bread pudding, hot chocolate, cappuccino, and irish coffee. Perfect treats to warm-up every corgi owner, both inside and out.

No caroling required... we'll let the pups do the howling for us.

BRING: your decorated dogs, ready for caroling! Holiday attire, sweaters, collars, or colorful scarfs are suggested, but not necessary. I'll bring bells and glow necklaces for 50 70! I'll have blue glow sticks for those celebrating Hanukkah. Bring additional light sticks, necklaces/bracelets or other corgi lights, if you want. Battery operated LED's work great too because they don't get hot.

NEW: Join in on THE HOLIDAY PILE by BRINGing a small unwrapped toy or treat. Once at the Pub, we'll throw all the toys & treats in a holiday pile and let our corgis nose around, one at a time, to pick one to take home!

HELP NEEDED: It's time again to request small contributions from our members to help offset the cost of our Meetup website and its great communication tools. I really do need your help. I don't want to charge an annual membership fee, or charge an attendance fee to cover incidentals like the bells and glow necklaces for this Meetup, or the Howl-O-Ween prizes. That ruins the fun and discourages people from attending. We have 40-60 people who participate every month (plus a bunch of other members too.) If everyone at a single Meetup contributed $5, that would cover everything and I wouldn't need to ask again for a year. We're asking for just $5 per dog! What a deal! PLEASE keep the fun going by dropping a few bucks into the MONEY JAR. I'll have it with me at the dog park, at the gate where we exit the park on leash, and at the pub.

DIRECTIONS: Nate's Point is located on the West Mesa of Balboa Park, immediately south of El Prado / Laurel Street and east of Balboa Drive. SEE MAP. Click here for larger map.

From the North: take 163 S toward downtown. Exit at University Ave (exit 2C). Merge onto 6th Ave. Turn Left at El Prado. Turn R (one way) on Balboa Dr and park on the street. From the East and South: take 94 West to/or Interstate 5 North. Exit at 6th Ave (exit 16B). Turn Right. Turn Right at El Prado. Turn R (one way) on Balboa Dr and park on the street.

Rain will cancel this event.

Light up the night as part of an unforgettable procession of jingling, glowing corgis as we meander thru Balboa Park.

I think they were having a hard time trying to sing "Corgi Butts" on their own. They hadn't learned the words yet. We needed you two to lead the caroling!

Our first time -- can't wait

    December 14, 2012

so joel has been writing songs for our entertainment:

"Corgi Butts" (to the tune of Silver Bells):
    Corgi pawprints, little pawprints
    Dogs in holiday style.
In the air there's a feeling of Christmas.
    Corgis barking, Corgis romping,
    Causing smile after smile
And on every street corner you'll see.

    Corgi butts, Corgi Butts
It's a Welsh time in the city.
    Herp-a-derp, they're in shirts,
Soon it will be Christmas day.

Sets of stub legs, lots of stub legs
    With costumes red and green
And tourists rush out with their cameras.
Hear the claw-clacks, see the long backs,
    Corgis are making a scene.
And among all the bustle you'll see.

    Corgi butts, Corgi Butts
It's a Welsh time in the city.
    Herp-a-derp, they're in shirts,
Soon it will be Christmas day.

Such talent! You are now responsible for the grin I'll have the rest of the day...

Are you kidding me --what great songs. Very talented people. Only one question - do I have to learn the song before next Friday?

RSVP corrected: Guests were always allowed! This was accidentally turned off. You can now add your guests.

    To answer a few questions:
    1. Do we have to dress up? No. Corgis are like people: some prefer to just come as they are.
    2. Do we have to bring a toy? No, but if you do your corgi can play the game & choose a toy to take home.

The idea here is just to get together to create some holiday spirit. Bells and glow necklaces may add to the ambiance, but are not necessary. Whether you and your jingle corgi come as you are or all dressed up, you're sure to smile and laugh as you're hit by the holiday spirit only a procession of caroling corgis can provide.
