RESCHEDULED TO NEXT SATURDAY, FEB 2ND DUE TO UNRELENTING RAIN
The Poll is in: If it's wet and raining at 8am, this Meetup will be rescheduled to next Saturday, Feb 2nd. Check back here in the morning after 8am and before heading out.
WEATHER UPDATE: There's a 50% chance of rain continuing between 10am and noon tomorrow. Temperature predicted to be 60º with negligent wind. I thought about moving to Laguna Mountain, but it's too warm for snow. A quick look at the 10 day forecast shows 0% chance of rain next Saturday. I'd like to know your opinion: Do we go tomorrow no matter what, reschedule to next Saturday now, reschedule if it's wet and raining at 8am tomorrow?
Please go to the poll page:http://www.meetup.com/SanDiegoCorgiMeetup/polls/728922/ to let me know your preference. Please answer by 8pm tonight and then check the Meetup listing before heading out. Thanks!
Cold enough lately? We are very fortunate to have our own Dog Winter Wonderland right here in San Diego. Where you may ask? The ice skating rinks at the Hotel Del Coronado, Horton Plaza, and Viejas are nice but not dog friendly. The Laguna Mountains are beautiful if you happen to be there when it snows.
We have Fiesta Island! It's 485 leash-free acres of calm bay water beaches, sandy dunes, and grassy interior fields are what every dog needs this time of year. Even our lowrider corgis will appreciate FRAPing on the sandy beach when its wet and rainy outside.
We'll avoid the mud and take the pups on a romp at Fiesta Island, where rain won't spoil the outing. Sleet & hail might. Wouldn't snow be amazing? It's certainly been chilly enough.
Park at the west end parking lot (OTL parking on North end of old dog area. OR along the old dog area chain link fence (closer). SEE MAP. Click Here for a larger Map. We'll meet in the waterski area, just past the floating boat dock. This area is a long/safe distance from the roads & protected from the howling wind. Listen for the howling corgis.
Fiesta Island is best experienced on the move. So at 11am we'll take those willing on an off leash walk to the south west corner of Fiesta Island (across from SeaWorld), then thru the interior, and back to the beach. Well... we will walk, but I'm pretty sure the corgis will charge ahead and then herd each other back to the group. I can guarantee that Tucker will swim most of the way.
BRING: Water for you and pups, potty bags, Your own seating if desired, Sneakers or closed toed shoes as seashells and poop can be hazardous. This is an undeveloped area with only port-a-pottys on the roadside.
DIRECTIONS: From I-5, take the Sea World Drive exit and head southwest, then make a right onto East Mission Bay Drive, then left to Fiesta Island.
Corgi cooped up all week? Get you and your corgis out of the house to run free with all of their friends. See you there!
