Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981, Dir. Steven Spielberg)

Creator of this event: Kevin ~

Okay, I probably won't add all the details and trivia about this flick that Robb does for his Reading Cinemas meetups, but hey, you can find IMDB and Wikipedia as easily as I can.

"Raiders" was Oscar nominated for Best Picture, Director, Score and Cinematography, and won for Editing and some other junk, but what you really need to know is that this movie is awesome middlebrow pulpy fun awesomeness. And youngish Harrison Ford, if that blows your skirt up.

Creator of this Event: Kevin

Cost: Only $5.00  (for the ticket; the meetup is free. Parking is...well, it's downtown so...I dunno; you're on your own there.)

When and Where: We'll meet up in the lobby of the Reading Cinemas Gaslamp 15 and hang out between 6:45 and 6:55 and then head into the theater. The s.o.p. for these Reading Cinemas things seems to be to start at 7pm with no trailers but ~= 15 minutes for introductory remarks and (mainly) trivia questions whereby you can win shiny buttons.

After the Film: We'll swing by somewhere close to chat and have a drink/eat. [That is what Organizer Robb has written on the many similar meetups he has hosted, and I'm up for it too (though can't stay out too late), but I'm new to the group and not very familiar with downtown, so I'll be following y'all's lead on this.]

The movie was great, but I arrived at 7:00 pm, bought a ticket, and never saw anyone or any sign of a meetup group. I went into the theater, saw the guy doing the door prizes, watched the movie, and hung around afterwards, but just never saw a group. Where were you guys?

Again...sorry Ron but we do head into all the movies at 6:55 so everyone can get seated. Kevin had that stated in the info, as we always do, and followed it exactly. Sorry you didn't get there by that time but we always head in at 6:55 so folks aren't missing anything due to last minute or late arrivals. As for the afterwards piece...late or last minute arrivals usually have to do the searching for folks, as the other folks have no way to know they're there. Again, even though this went exactly as planned, sorry you missed the group.

I was late too and didn't see any familiar faces, but the movie was great!! I'll be sure to be there earlier next week to meet everyone :O)

Hey everyone! Hope your weeks are great so far! ;)

This event is being hosted by Kevin and I'll be down the street seeing Nick Cave live...but, just some reminders...

For those attending for the first time, you'll meet up in the lobby between 6:45 and 6:55 and then head into the theater. On Tuesday nights, you buy your ticket inside at the concession stand instead of outside. Afterwards, you can swing by somewhere close to chat and have a drink/eat.

For those that are driving: There's a baseball game Tuesday night so traffic might be higher than normal and some parking lots won't be as cheap as they are on "non-stadium event" nights.

If you come late and miss the group beforehand...no problem!...just look for the group afterward.

    Have a great night!

thanks for the heads-up about the baseball game, but FWIW the Padres' schedule says they are away in L.A. that day ( http://mlb.mlb.com/sc... )

Ha! Sorry...didn't realize that. I clearly don't follow baseball. ;)

Well shoot, Kevin. The announcement said 7:00 pm and I was there precisely at 7:00 pm. Next time you plan one of these things, could you say we meet at 6:30 or 6:45 and walk-in at 7:00 pm? This gives us a little time to connect up. I do not live downtown and parking caused me to walk a ways. But I was there at the appointed time and you were not.

Hi Ron. Sorry about your confusion but Kevin actually followed the plans precisely. I apologize you didn't meet up. In all of the film info pages, we state that everyone will meet between 645 and 655 and then head in. This is so people can be in their seat by 7. Sorry you missed the group but Kevin did have that stated in the info and it was also again in the update I put together. We hold to that rule strictly so folks aren't missing the show due to other people arriving last minute.

When this movie came out, I directed an archaeology crew on the discovery of a lost 18th century Spanish fort on Point Loma. My entire crew wearing all their dirty field clothes went to see it on opening night. What a fun memory!

Glad to see someone organize and host this one, Kevin ;). One of my favorites but I have a ticket to Nick Cave that night so I couldn't host. I'll probably try to get to the Saturday showing. Have fun!

Cool. Personally I could go either day but I figured there's a reason (parking? Saturday date night?) all of your Reading movie meetups have been Tuesday instead of Saturday.

Yeah...we usually do these on Tuesday nights due to parking...etc. as well as more stuff going on, on the weekends, for a lot of folks. But, we've also done a few different events on weekend nights with good turnout. ;)
