The Big Lebowski (1998) ( !!!!!! )

"Her life was in their hands. Now her toe is in the mail."

'The Big Lebowski' (1998) (Trailer below)

"Dude" Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire Lebowski, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it."

If you haven't seen 'The Big Lebowski'...mere words can't explain the awesomeness of the film that's become a historic pop culture entity in it's own right.

With a 92% rating at'The Big Lebowski' has, over the last 15 years, gone from being just another awesome indie film in the notch of the Coen Brothers' a cultural landmark in cinema.  Just about every single character and line has worked its way into our lexicon...with books, bowling events, annual film showings and touring festivals continuing to pop up across the globe...all in honor of..."The Dude".

Directed by the Coen Brothers (No Country for Old Men, Fargo, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, True Grit, Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, Hudsuker Proxy...and on, and on, and on...), 'The Big Lebowski' also features an amazing ensemble cast, including: Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore, Steve Buscemi, John Turturro, Philip Seymour Hoffman, David Huddleston, Tara Reid, Ben Gazzara and Sam Elliott.

Do not miss 'The Big Lebowski' on the big screen!

After the Film: We may swing by somewhere close to chat and have a drink if enough folks are up for it.

Other Interesting Facts:

- A lot of the Dude's clothes in the movie were Jeff Bridges's own clothes, including his Jellies sandals.

- Before filming a scene, Jeff Bridges would frequently ask the Coen Brothers "Did the Dude burn one on the way over?" If they said he had, he would rub his knuckles in his eyes before doing a take.

- John Goodman's favorite film of his own.

- The word "fuck" or a variation of the word "fuck" is used 292 times.

- The fast-food restaurant In & Out Burger is referred to during the movie, for which John Goodman once did a commercial.

- Recipe for making a White Russian: 2 parts vodka, 1 part coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa) and 1 part cream. Served with ice in a low ball glass.

I really like this movie. I like how the film is tightly crafted, yet transmits an apparent casual demeanor that that allows one to ease into the head of the Dude who has been stoned out of his mind for so long that he now exist in that natural state without the aid of drug therapy. I like the disjunctive nature of the film that make such sense that we are able to enter the mind and the world of the Dude. What makes the film work is that while we are laughing at the antics, the film sets up such a good nature sense of the humor That we totally like the Dude. In that way, I think the movie actually opens a crack into existence that let's us see that the world is more like the way the Dude see things than we realize, perhaps more real than the vail existence in which we engaged.

Hope everyone had a great holiday! Here are the Theater-Temp, Parking and Time reminders -

Reminder that, due to a possible larger crowd, we're meeting a bit earlier for this one. We'll head into the theater by 6:40pm. If you don't make it by that problem. Look for us in the theater or look for us in the lobby after the film.

It can be chilly or warm in this bring a jacket or sweater if you'd like.

Since it's not baseball season, Park-it-on-Market is a great option on weekdays for parking (only $1 an hour on weekdays and only a block from the Reading Gaslamp 15). There's an entrance on 6th Ave between G and Market - 655 Sixth Ave.

Horton Plaza also offers 3 hours of free parking with their self-validation machines. Just remember to actually get your ticket validated and watch the time carefully. If you don't make it back within 3 hours...the lot is $8 an hour for every additional hour.

    See everyone at the theater!

One last reminder about tickets for The Big Lebowski:

Everyone may want to get their tickets ahead of time.

Although most of the vintage film nights never sell out...this film certainly has that chance...and just the turnout we're having here, points to that.

It may end up being just the opposite...but this is one you might want to purchase ahead of time just in case.'s easy! Click This Link For Tickets:
