Hi Robb, didn't get to day hello, but I thought the movie was a excellent choice. The cleverly believable it was directed. The moral of the story hit home for me. Sometimes doing the right thing can ruin your life, but you do it anyway. I will definitely come to the next one.

Sorry I missed you, Maryellen! I'm glad you enjoyed the film. After a 2-week break, due to an in-town visitor, I'll posting a lot of films for the next few weeks...so I look forward to meeting you!

    Continuation:

I believe the director was afraid to go all the way. As a result of the compromise,, the movie fell back into the traditional.

As it turned out, I thought Locke was a good movie, but it could have been a great one, too bad. My reason for pulling back on a full recommendation is for a formal and aesthetic reason. The director wanted to change the way movies are made by making an anti-movie, but he only went half way. What I mean is that the director essentially handed the story telling to the protagonist. In that way, this movie was sort of a visual novel, through which we are forced into the head of the protagonist. That aspect of it worked well. Unfortunately the director broke form by the showing of scenic views, which presumed to be a tool for establishing the spatial context, but which was in fact a compromise to the tradition of film making. The entire film (except for the opening scene) should have been inside or tightly focused on the car. That would have put the audience in the car, face to face with his inner thoughts of the protagonist, which was what the movie’s intent.

Excellent! The movie was controlled yet uncontrolled intensity.
