'Dragon Inn' (1967) MOPA Taiwan Cinema Spotlight: King Hu - Night #1

Kung Fu Weekend - Film #1

'Dragon Inn' (aka 'Dragon Gate Inn') (Taiwan) (1967)

This is the first night in MOPA's Taiwan Cinema Spotlight of: King Hu

Get out and get your Kung Fu on!

"The box office sensation that made King Hu's reputation as a stylist, storyteller, and innovator, 'Dragon Inn' is Hu at his cinematic nimblest. Wandering heroes, imperial guards, and escaped siblings converge at Dragon Inn, the wilderness pit stop that would go on to become one of the most storied settings of the wuxia genre."

Who is...King Hu?

"King Hu is revered as a wildly creative and impeccable craftsman of the wuxia genre. While other directors experimented across genres and unleashed countless films per year, Hu was the perfectionist with a razor-sharp vision of Chinese aesthetics and philosophy, and how those principles could translate into bravura action editing, elaborate staging, and cutting-edge special effects.

The director made his greatest films in the exploding Taiwanese film industry of the 1960s and early 70s. With two newly-restored prints, “King Hu in Taiwan” explores the filmmaker at his prime, and is the first spotlight on Hu ever in San Diego."

Hope everyone's had a great week so far!

Pretty excited about 3 days of old school Kung Fu on the big screen. :)

    ~Parking/MoPA Building~
I don't have a lot of info for this location for folks. Not because I've never been to Balboa Park (I've been there a million times) but there are just too many places to park and too many ways to get to the MoPA building to post them here.

If you're not familiar with the Balboa Park parking options and/or the location of the MoPA building…you can definitely find info online and I would bet the Park and MoPA websites would be of help.

We'll meet in the lobby at 6:30pm and head into the theater at 6:40pm…or whenever they let us in. If you don't make it to the lobby by 6:40pm, no problem...just look for the group in the theater or feel free to sit on your own.

    See everyone tonight!
