Building a Focused Stock Watch List Using Investor’s Business Daily®

There is a great meeting early next month sponsored by IBD. They have some good info that will help your investing skills. The cost is zero, so you only have to invest a couple of hours on a Saturday. If you have the time, I'd check it out. I'll be there, too. This is a one time meeting.

Title:Building a Focused Stock Watch List Using Investor’s Business Daily®

Course Description:There are more than 10,000 publicly traded stocks to choose from, how do you focus on the true winners? With more than four decades of research, Investor’s Business Dailyfounder, William J. O’Neil, developed an entirely different way to search for winning stocks. Learn how IBD screens the market and helps you identify leading stocks that could be setting up proper entry points. If you catch such a stock at the early stage, you shouldbe able to capitalize on its enormous progress.

As a newbie to all this, the overview of the features in the paper (or electronic version) and what they do for you is very helpful. I also liked the rules for selling. My initial impression of the IBD method is: be disciplined, put your research in, and play the long game

The tools add a couple of layers of insulation around your emotions and several more layers around the talking heads. The farther you get into IBD, you will realize that 90% of the folks on CNBC are saying things to justify opinion. They are not using facts. CALPERS, for example, only made 1% last year. Those are professionals?

After a day and a half of digestion, what I think I have taken away from the meeting is:
Let IBD do pretty much all the work.
If a chart appears in the IBD 50 it has passed most parameters. If the chart tells you a buy point then wade in.
    Same with the stock spotlite.
Same with the Friday "stocks in review" but not quite as much.
There was no mention of the "stock checkup". Wondered about that.
I love the four questions to ask before you sell. I plan to force myself to ask those questions in the future. My portfolio would be in much better shape if I had asked before selling in the past.
    Thanks for listening.

The IBD rules usually work. Sometimes things happen quickly, however, and we can't sell at the right time. for that reason, I sometimes use stops. It is best to keep moving forward and not agonize when things aren't perfect.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
