It was good to see you all last night. I'm already putting together a tutorial on how to get a PHP dev environment up and running using vagrant, hopefully it will be extensive enough that you can all come back with a fully functional environment next time. I also have some ideas for simple projects we can work as a group in symfonys, I'll post them up on the Facebook page.

Thank you guys for putting together this group. I think what you are doing is completely selfless and incredibly informative.

I am a php newbie. Will this group be too high level for me?

You are welcome to come despite experience with php. It will be the first study group on symfony2, I would think we will spend some time setting up the framework or even talking about it and good and bad things about it. @Leon, correct me if I'm wrong :)

      That sounds fine.

For this meetup, if we want to try a new framework we could setup Symfony2: http://symfony.com/

There is also a Nettus tutorial for it: http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/php/diving-into-symfony-2-2/

Let me know if you guys are interested in this.

I really like symfony2, but it is a large framework. Taking some of the symfony2 components and using them in the context of smaller projects could be a good way to learn about the symfony2 full-stack internals and still be accessible for others to join and participate in the group. Here is a list of all the symfony2 components http://symfony.com/components

I'm open to whatever the group wants to do, but I think if you try another framework, you'll end up with the same problem we had with codeigniter. You have to figure out how to make it interesting and accessible for everyone in the group. Also the main group is doing a Symfony workshop soon as well I think, so that may help.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
