Mission Bay Visitor Center (map)
I'm Garrett and I work for Road Runner Sports. I took the reigns of the store run in the summer of 2007 and like to think of it as a casual, conversational-paced run for all speeds and levels of experience.
The run is up to 5 miles (although you can cut it short) from the same starting point every week year round. We stick to the Mission Bay path during the darker months and run out toward Sea World when daylight savings is on our side. We average about 40 runners each Wednesday night, ranging from about 6-11 minutes per mile.
I get the back-of-the-packers, in the 9+ minute-per-mile pace range, started a few minutes early - usually between 6:00-6:05. Everyone else starts around 6:15.
We occasionally have giveaways from the store and various vendors. I give away Frequent Runners Cards to first timers, and after 10 runs you'll get some swag. Vendors also stop by throughout the year to let you test new shoes.
You're more than welcome to fire away with shoe, injury or any misc. questions. No commitment or registration of any kind.
We usually do a basic core workout after the run, so regardless of when you finish, hang around for a few minutes to chat and burn a few more calories .... And then put them right back on at the High Dive, a local restaurant we frequent after the run.
Directions: The runners bathroom (which is set back on the Mission Bay path and has a rack of race flyers and magazines) is right off the west end of Clairemont Drive. If you're standing at the end of Clairemont Dr. and facing the bay, take a left and the bathroom is couple hundred feet up the road to the right. It's just south of the visitors center and south of the address listed above. We meet at the tree to the right of the bathroom.
