Photographer Lisa Wiseman will discuss how her career and her unique style of quiet portraiture has emerged over the last few years. She will talk about how to staying true to her vision while embracing creative marketing and solid business practices have played heavily into her success and will finish with an open question and answer session about marketing and business related issues.

Lisa's photography is about transitions, in-between spaces, and liminal moments. She loves exploring the image as the quiet pause between the before and after. She shoots fashion and portraiture with a fine art eye, often honing in on subtle details of the model or the garment instead of showing the whole person. Through a deliberate use of cropping, she creates a narrative that focuses on elements that sometimes go unnoticed. Her images often have a cinematic film-still quality, which makes the viewer feel connected yet voyeuristic. She says, "I want the viewer to create their own end to the story."

She as always been fascinated by deconstructed and collective memories, cultural nostalgia, and identity formation. The intersection of these things informs and shapes her photography. She work in digital mediums (both SLR and using her iPhone camera for the New Polaroid project) and in film using Polaroid 600. She received her BA in sociology from UC Berkeley in 2004 and completed a second BFA in photography at the Academy of Art University in 2007. I has been honored with many awards, most recently being selected for PDN's 30 in 2009. She lives in San Francisco where she enjoys collecting photography books and contemporary art.

SF Smugs will be on the last Tuesday of the Month and will be held at the Sports Basement on Bryant St (1590 Bryant at 15th) in the "Grotto".
