Since moving from NYC to the SF bay area, I've been searching for a SUSHI shrine to worship at, on par with Sasabune in NYC and Sushi Nozawa in L.A., which is sadly now closed (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/29/dining/kazunori-nozawa-of-sushi-nozawa-in-los-angeles-is-set-to-retire.html?pagewanted=all).
Sakae Sushi is not that shrine. But the omakase is very respectable and so is the sake selection. : )
Please join me for an early dinner (party of 4 reservation at 6:30pm). The restaurant is literally across the street from the Burlingame Caltrain station (just past SFO).
“Fresh from Japan”, the fin fare at this Burlingame spot is “flown in from the Tokyo fish market” several times a week, making for “superb and unusual” sushi that some call “the best on the peninsula”, while “tasty” cooked dishes such as tempura are also available.
