Jason Fox represents a new breed of chefs who don't mind creating sophisticated white-tablecloth food in bare-table surroundings. His stylized combinations could easily be served at Meadowood or Manresa, but his kitchen is in a Mission storefront with the windows partly covered by an opaque film. A disco ball found in the attic spins in the middle of the comfortable but noisy room. Fox employs the latest techniques on his constantly changing menu, frothing malt vinegar mousse for house-made potato chips, making nettle emulsion for scallops, and cooking onions in hay for a salad. There's a six-course tasting menu for $70, with a portion donated to charity.
NOTE - the entire table must commit to the tasting menu, which is currently a fair price of $70. Accommodations can be made and there is a vegetarian tasting menu option.
